i have a 1984 mini mayfair in red. i have done what i can whish is put in a cd player and speakers under the back seats and parsel shelf, also i have spent some money getting my back seats custom made in a style i want. i also have put on a stage 1 kit whish is the rc40 exhaust system but atm i am doing a engone rebuild on my 1100 cc for my mini, i want to put in flat top pistons and a road rally cam. also would like to put in some uprated roller rockers aswell. while that is being done i have just put a standerd 998cc in my mini. i will upload some pictures of my mini soon once i know how to as i am new to the forum.

Hi, having just returned to the delights of old car restoration I don't yet drive a mini, but am currently buying ebay to build one.
I now have an '88 City E shell, totally rebuilt 998 engine (currently standard), set of Cooper subframes with brakes attached as the shell came without brakes and hubs, a dellorto twin choke (40mm) an LCB exhaust kit and a set of new revolution 12" wheels and Falken tyres. Oh...and a steering rack of unknown vintage! Everything else is still virtual!!!

The shell needs much welding so I've built a spit roller and am about to take the grinder to it. I had intended to try sand blasting it to remove all the old grot and paint, but having read some of the posts here about this, I'm now not so sure.

I intend to de-seam the wings (but not the roof!)

I have a stage 3 1275 head, but have been told I will need to b****r the block to make it fit so that might have to wait.

My son has designed a real 'loud' paint job (always ahead of himself) involving much dayglow green and orange and I will need to build an interior for it. Any suggestions or templates for dashboards would be gratefully recieved.

Time scale for completion (ha ha) is 1 April but this will depend on the weather as it's too d*mn cold out there at the moment.

If I can work out how to do it, I'll post some before and during pictures as soon as I've takent some. That way I might actually remeber to take some before I'm finished.

A question...is there a guide to dismantling and remantling minis? I always used Haynes in the past but I have the modern version and its useless. They obviously took too much notice of the complaints of yore and have made it a service manual for dummies; no good if you want to do a complete strip.

I'd better stop now...the rear subframe is calling...needs stripping and rebuilding while the weather's c**p.

Here's my beauty! Well, I thought it was until all hell broke loose with it. Had a lot of exterior/interior work done to this car costing around 7k being 'professionally' done. this didn’t turn out to be the case and ended up being ripped off by a 'mini specialist' garage, that car caused a lot of heartbreak for the family but that aside, the next one will be top notch knowing a close friend of mine is doing it for me, just watch out what your buying people, try not to fall victim like I did because the consequences are horrible... most common comments with this car was 'wow it looks good' oh I know that, but don’t even think about driving it, it's a death trap... sorry if I’ve damaged the mood here lol got to think towards the next mini now! :P And hello to all!

'91 Rover Cooper (carb), K&N filter, 2" centre pipe with no cat, electronic ignition, 13x7 wheels, 4 spots, twin airhorns. Just had loads of welding, new panels, bodywork and paint. Airbrushed roof. Had it since 2002, plan is to just use it more and look after it better...

Hi Folks. I'm Barry and I live in Taunton, UK. I've just bought my first Mini, which I believe started life as a 1992 Mini Mayfair, but now has a very nice waspish yellow and black paint job, wide wheels, Subaru racing seats, 1275 SPi upgrade etc. First spotted last year at a Castle Coombe track day, but I don't know who owned it or exactly what has been done. I will have lots of questions since I'm a complete beginnner. But I'm already planning to do the Riviera Run in Newquay at the end of April - anyone else going?

First question: where is the engine number?! I can see a large embossed number near the top of the engine "WFM 1024 NW" but I can't see anything anywhere that looks like a proper engine no. I want to check what this engine really is.

Also, at the risk of starting the dreaded oil thread, what should I be using? The previous owner left a bottle of fully synthetic 0w30 in the car, but I'm sure that's wrong!
