Hi, Claire and I are the proud owners of MAGS the 1982 Y Reg Mini 1000 HLE.
I bought Mags for Claires wedding present, she really wanted one and obviously budget was limited at the wedding time. Found Mags in the back of a guys garage behind 10 1930's engine scrapheaps..and the guy wanted £150 for her!
Cost £1100 total garage bill at a so-called mate of a mate...but was well worth it i think.
Mags breaks have proved the biggest nightmare, but having them sorted last month for MOT means shes now PUCKA.
Engine is sweet, shes got 8000miles on the clock, deffo been round once...perhaps twice. It does of course leak oil...i have done rocker gasket, fuel pump gasket and near side driveshaft/CV cup gasket...but it still leaks. NExt job is the timing cover gasket...but that means radiator out...which for me is a bigger job than i'd prefer. But will give it a shot.
Bodywork is generally good. Worst rust in front drivers side floor and under rear seat. Next worst areas being A frames, rear corner, front headlight areas. The usual really, but not being a welder...i'm always on the hunt for someone who can put new wings, a frames, and floor pans in for me.
Ok enough banging on from me.
Lovin Mags work on the roads especially on the corners...totally choice!!
Future holds a stage 1 kit hopefully for mags, and some new wheels...and one day a respray to sort all the tatty bits out...but funds, and up and coming baby...will no doubt delay that lot.
Adios for now,
Goose.

It's never been restored or welded, and is completely original apart from having had the original matt grey bumpers, front grille and wiper blades replaced with chrome ones and a Rover radio cassette player in place of the original MW/LW radio which could no longer tune into anything.

What mini do you drive and are there any mods done to it ?
Also what are your plans !
Hello to all...
Im an final year Electrical Engineering student in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am also a aspiring mechanic/panel beater and I have choosen an Austin Mini Leykor as my first project.
I love how mechanically simply mini's are and I belive them to be a great car to learn on.
Here Is a picture of my mini ...
This mini is a Leykor ... and was manufactured right here in South Africa in the early 1970`s during the Apartheid era.
I purchased it from a guy on a farm who had it laying around in his back yard for 5 years, so although on the outside it looks okay, there is alot of rust in all the nooks and crannies.
Managed to get it started (surprisingly) after much work.
And ive joined the forum because i`ve hit some complications.
Im really looking forward to learn from this forum.
Big Hi to all.
Leykor

1994 Mini Grand Prix
Still checking on the authenticity of these models, as some facts are a little daunting.
The ritz would be one of 2,200 sold in the UK
The Grand Prix would be one of 34 sold in the UK
The Ritz is in work, I hope to have some pictures soon!
The Grand Prix is losing its engine to the Ritz so my toy can have a nice powerplant!

Plans for it are to halt the rust and eventually mod it to become a Cooper Sport.
Nothing major, signed up to chat and learn about how to restore mini's.
Will post pics at some point.

Just finnished putting the subrame back on . The so call mechanic who owned the car previous, who was restoring to sell, was a cowboy and did silly things to make restoring my beloved mini that much harder.
i have spent monthes undoing his mistakes. anyway Dave is almoust done and features some rare parts donated from my best friends mini 25
oh and i have a spare head for sale and a spare engine the engine was left out in the rain (not by me) but if anyone wants to try and fix it just ask.
thanks for listening to my rant im rather pasionate about minis
pic shows the mess it was in
