hey im Paul and this is my mini, he is called Morgan after a my old pet rat that died the same day that i finished the welding on my car. He has a majorly tuned 1293 motor as well as uprated everything else. he was designed to be a sleeper so i can catch out unsuspecting boy racers and with around 100bhp under the bonnet that shouldn't be to hard. Morgan is nearly finished now but i have been building him for the last two years and can't wait to take him out for the first time.
here is my project thread incase you wana check it out

What mini do you drive and are there any mods done to it ?
Also what are your plans :D !

I have a Morris Cooper 997 which I bought as a wreck (RF wing crash) when I was 18. It is the first car I bought myself. Dad was a mechanic so I had started with a VW Baja Bug at 15, then a Mazda RX2 coupe at 17. The VW was stylish, but lacked power (big wheels + 1300cc engine = going nowhere fast). The RX2 was fantastic, but cost a fortune in petrol. I wish I had been able to keep them both, but only managed to hold onto the Mini. Still, it is the most fun to drive of any car I have owned.

I spent ages at the wreckers (back when wreckers had minis in them) getting the correct parts , although a lot of the original bits were there from the start. It has the heater, 100mph speedo, door chrome (not fitted), over-riders (not fitted), battery box, boot board, wooden sports steering wheel.

It was British racing Green. Original colour was the Cooper yellow, but I preferred the Surf (or is it Island... I can never remember) Blue so had it repainted that colour.

I am now 44. The car has been in storage (Dads workshop) since I bought it and only driven for 3 months in 2002 when I finally decided it was time to get it on the road, or else sell the thing. I then went to Japan for 4 years and just recently got it WOF'd again now I am back in NZ. It is still in storage, but I try to drive it at least once on the weekend, but only if it isn't raining.

Plans: Get some decent brakes as it is drums all round. Take it to some of the Mini Rallies organised through the Mini Car Club of NZ (NZ Cooper Club is now defunct it appears). Take a holiday to the South Island and try not to break down too often.

Gary

Hi millsy22!!
Welcome to theminiforum. you are in the right place for help and advice! i have not been here for too long myself, but have found the site a real help! I bought a 92 mini mayfair in march off the internet, i paid just under 2k for it, and it is ready to go, there are a few things that need doing, but even with my VERY limited knowledge, i have been able to just tinker in the garage, and with some help from these guys, have found myself comleting tasks i didnt think id even try before ! In my little time with a mini i have found them very easy to play with, loads of fun, and not too expensive to repair, or upgrade! Things to look out for are rust!! in the A-panels, the sills (under the side of car) the boot floor around the battery box, around the windows at the front of the car by the bonnett, and around the headlights......!ooh, and the rear sub frame...... you generly get what you pay for tho, so bear that in mind. I hope this helps a bit, im sure others will come in with advise also!!

If you know of anyone with experiance of minis take them with you when you go looking.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

I have a 1981 Mini 1000, Black with a white roof.
Its currently rusted to hell as its been pretty much sitting still for the last 8 years. Now its coming up to the 10 year anniversary of owning it its time to sort it out. £500 of heritage panels including floor, wings, front panel, a-panels, inner and outer sills, maybe a boot floor, haven't got that far yet.

I'm going to upgrade the brakes, suspension and add 13" wheels. Keeping the same colours when it gets re-painted, as you dont see too many black Mini's.
I'm leaving the engine as a standard 998 for now, but I'm considering a 16v conversion.

Fortec Superwide body kit 16" wheels 50/50 offset modified 1275 Turbo. And the best bit there are no spacers on the rear and its wider than a Fiesta XR2i body plan
