Have recently re-acquired a 1991 mini cooper that has been moved around from friends garage to friends garage for the past 3 years, waiting to be fixed up and running again!! We just bought a house that has a off-road parking space and so it looks as though it might actually get the attention it deserves now...

Will be looking to do a complete overhaul of everything from engine bits to interior to body work... so will undoubtably have a sickening list of things to ask and question everyone here about and when I actually learn some things I'll be sure to return the favour!

What mini do you drive and are there any mods done to it ?
Also what are your plans :P !

Hi to everyone my name is Mick I'm a newbie to the site,
I have a 1983 Mini City E 998cc, which now has a stage one kit.
I bought the Mini back in 1993 as a learner car for the wife for the grand sum of £35-00 when the MOT ran out it needed work we decided it would be a good project for my son to do a portfolio on as he wanted to be a mechanic when he left school. Little did we know what the future held, the adventure began we asked ourselves can you polish a Turd (due to it’s disgusting brown colour). We started in February 1993 stripping out the car buying new wings A panels sills and door steps a second hand door and bonnet was also fitted, we set to fitting the bits of a weekend on holidays from work but progress was slow and it got shelved for a while actually it was five years later. So in 2004 it was dragged out dusted of to see how it had fared? Not to well actually but I set too again determined to finish it a new rear valance another door and minor boot repairs and that was the welding finished. It all got rubbed down and a coat of primer it looked sweet but again it got put to one side due to ill health. Then in 2005 my friend Chris who’s garage I was using and whom had done a lot to help me surprised me by giving it a coat of looking at yes it finally was painted blue. With new enthusiasm I set to on the interior but most of it had been lost over the years I recovered door cards dash cards etc and had it on the road by the end of 2005.
There was still a way to go but there is light at the end of the tunnel, it’s not just some bugger with a torch bringing more work. A few mechanical bits to do a roof lining & seat covers but at least it is on the road now. Oh yes and how is it?
Well it’s bouncy as hell the windows steam up it rattles bangs and is noisy, good job it’s got a decent CD player then. It goes like the wind but the brakes are C**p just as I remember it then Oh the joy!
Well I thought that was it but oh no February 2007 it had to come of the road hoses were leaking rubber mounts were dropping to bits and it had developed a death rattle I suspected the timing chain. It is still undergoing surgery I have the technology to re-build the engine, body and my sanity?

I drive a 1991 Rover Mini Cooper. The vehicle has had a complete rebuild. The Body was bead blasted and zinc coated before going to be painted. The vehicle was painted by Octagon Mini tuning in Selsey Bill, West Sussex, along with the interior fit out. The engine was rebuilt with an increase in gearing to allow for better fuel consumption on Motorway Journeys. All the engine work was carried out by Jonspeed Racing in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. As soon as the body work was completed it was brought up to the midlands for Jonspeed to fit the engine. I have been very pleased with the work carried out by both garages. I plan on using Octagon for any re-spray work.

I will put some pictures up as soon as I've got some.

The car is my pride and joy but doesn't get used as much as I would like, mainly due to the unwanted attention it attracts. Now winter is here it will be put in the garage and the last few jobs can be done on it in my spare time.

I'm after another mini. If anyone has a mini cooper from before 1972 that they got as a project but have run out of time/ money to do, then please contact me.

this is my 1988 mini mayfair, it pretty much standard at the mo! but i want to do loads to it! i'm gonna slap on some grp2 arches, mamba 10" wheels (if i can find them!! lol) an old style grille with the moustache surround tinted windows (if i can find a place to do it!). She could do with a respray but i want to find the right yellow, maybe the same yellow as the NY taxis!! and a white roof would be nice too to go with my minis theme!
