Im not driving anything at the moment - well nothing worth writing about!! However, i am now restoring my 1984 Mini Mayfair 1275GT - thought it was finally time to give Barnaby a bit of a makeover - as he gave up on me when he started overheating!!! Bohoo!!!
Plus his colour had gone from a shiny sexy silver to ilver 'd' rust!!!

I just bought my first mini two days ago, its a 1.3i cooper, there's a few patches of rust which I need to sort before the weather starts getting rough, could do with some ideas to be honest about mods and stuff..

The interior is nearly sorted and once completed im going to sort out all the panels so the body is perfect, i have a really good friend who is very skilled in fibreglassing so im going for more one off items such as custom dash, boot, bonnet for something different.
Unfortunatly i was rushed into hospital for 2-3weeks at the middle of august and missed alot of shows that i was planning to go to, im in recovery atm and cant drive for 6weeks but as soon as im back up and running im wanting to visit my first ever show.

The first mini i brought was a clubman, i brought it for £125 off a mate, I stripped it down then due to career change i had no money and no time! What a Carree change that was lol. Ended up selling it on ebay for £135 in the end which wasn't so bad.
My mini Mayfair that I've got at the moment has no mobs, but after a bit of research on this forum I've brought a 2 piece carbon flip front from ABS motorsports, so i can't wait for that to be delivered next week. Alright for the first project on the car, the whole front of the mini needs replacing anyway so it needs to be done!

Group Nc is for touring cars of a make and model which competed in Australia between 1st January 1965 and 31st December 1972 in either the Australian Touring Car Championship or in races specifically for the 3rd Category Group C Improved Touring Cars.
My car has a full roll cage to CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motorsport) specs, full six point harness and race seat. Full adjustable suspension and currently the Contessa wheels are shod with Dunlop Formula Rs. The motor is a (must) pre A plus block with full race roller cam. 13 to 1 compression forged pistons and is bored out to 1340cc. Fuel is fed by 45dcoe Webber with 5" inlet manifold and valves are actuated by a Swiftune roller rocker set. I am forced to use points ignition (this rule is about to be changed). My old race car was a Mk2 Healey Sprite that had a clever cheat- a Nissan electronic ignition which with some internal machining fitted inside the Lucas Dizzy. Too hard to check on a Sprite but very obvious in a Mini. I did over 2000 racing miles in that car and not once was it checked!
Gearbox is a standard Cooper s gearbox but I have fitted a KAD quick shift. What a fantastic mod. The gearbox is wearing in the synchros but will be rebuilt during our off-season
By the way my car is a glorious red with white roof and two white stripes down both sides of the bonnet.

The mods to come will hopefully be, downtown wing mirrors, chrome bumbers, chrome interior handles, chrome lamp for the rear number plate, spot lamps, clear indacators and sides, clear rear lights, deep dish wheels 12' - 13', coopersport arches, and maybe new exhaust. Interior wise i just want it to look retro but sporty not lik the standard interior that was in it.
Before paint it is going to be sand blasted and sorted out so that there is no rust whatsoever. Still not sure on what colour was thinking cosworth blue but i have a few years to decide.
When i am older and able to start modding the engine i am thinking of taking back seats out and having a roll - cage, uprated brakes, adjustable suspension and possibly an uprated 1.3 cooper engine.
anyway theres a few years untill this is finished and it will be even more years when i can start modding but i am well chuffed with this mini
(pictures to come)
