Heloo, Guten Tag! New guy here, I drive an 89, 30th Anniversary mini, cherry Red color. I'm currently In Iraq, while The car in in Mannheim, Germany. When I get back I plan to put a 1275 Engine in to replace the 998, and put a stage 1 or 2 kit in. A Body kit, if i can find one that I like, wider tires, I have to fix some rust spots, like under the front right headlight, and the bottoms of the doors. It has a few good scratches and chips in the paint, but looks pretty good. For the interior I would like to put some sound proofing insulation under the carpet, some new gauges, and a decent stereo. I would like to upgrade the shocks to coil for a smoother ride, I put new fender flares on because the old ones were cracked, and also a nice scratch from the rivet gun when the rivet popped...so also a new paintjob?! I do have a bike rack on the car also for my downhill rig. I have only owned the car since june, so I dont know too much about mini's. I am a mechanic in the military so I should be ok when it comes to fixing things. I just ordered a Haynes manual also. I do have quite a few questions about the car and some of the lingo, so please bear with me. Thanks!

Hi,

Been reading the forum for ages now but finally bought a mini so thought the time had come to introduce myself. Just got a 1993 mini cosmopoloitan. Originally bought in France she was imported in to the UK by her first owner. Cant wait to start working on her, work in london so dont really get much time to do any thing :'(

This is my second mini, looking forward to the summer when she will be taken to Germany to a very special little place i like to call the NÜRBURGRING.

Look forward to chatting to you all

Howdy all.

I have a 1967 Mk1 Australian built Mini Van. Its' license/registration plates are: BMC VAN

I am the third owner and know the full history of the car. The original owner bought it in 1968 upon retirement and hardly drove it. He left it to neigbours of his who are friends of mine. They hardly drove it and sold it to me.

I have had it since 1995, when it had 11,000 miles on it. It now has 32,000 on it and a worn out motor.

So time for a full restoration.

It has a 998 motor, wind up windows (as all aussie built Mk1s did by this stage) floor start, magic wand gear stick and 850 chrome grill.

The paint it Ok, as I re-sprayed it in 2000, and got rid of a little surface rust that it had. But it needs proper/professional paint finishing.

I have an Australian built MK2 (MINI 'K') van for parts with an 1100 engine.

The plan

Bore out the 998 block by 20 thou, and re-build it with the 1100 crank.

Use the original 3 syncro box which is in excellent condition.

Have the head ported a little for better flow.

Install a 2 inch exhaust, LCB and twin SUs I already have, as the only mods, with the hope of some morepower... 60 bhp would be good!

Everything else to be totally standard, except for an early (Riley Elf style) walnut dash that I have put away.

Other than the above it needs....

a steering rack, some wiring, bushes, rubber and bearing throughout and TLC. I expect to have to get tyres, brake linings and a new windscreen.

And finally I plan to turn the spare van shell into a trailer. I have seen one where the body was cut off forward of the firewall, then the 'A' pillars shifted back close to the 'B' pillars by removing the doors and foot wells. Then the windscreen and firewall are kept and sit about 10 inches infront of the end of the van tray. That's the plan... but the trailer will wait uyntil the car is finished...

I love this car, have had it for 11 years and will never sell it. in 2001 it was retired from everyday use and I have been slowly collecting parts ever since. Now it time......... I want her back on the road by Christmas 2007....

Cheers Paul R

Hi guys I'm new. Driving a Mini 30 as standard, had it a couple of months, slowly modding. I'll add some pictures once I get home.
At the moment I'm making a custom dash and centre console, got a Acewell 3150 Digidash for Christmas to go with it, but I cant work out how to fit the blessed thing!
Any ideas?
I also have a fairly mental sound system, can't remember the exact spec. but I have 8 speakers, and a 325w RMS sub in the boot... Needs an Amp to really make it sound good. Again once I get home I'll work out exactly what wattage each pair of speakers are :w00t:
Anyway hope you all had a good christmas and happy new year.
Mark.

1992 mini city, the day i got her i closed the door after sitting in the seat and the grille fell of thats when i new that this was guna be lot of work but i have the time and enjoy it greatly! the interior was pretty good when she arrived no marks at all, when she arrived there was no steering collum that was in the boot part from that the iterior looked ok but after stripping it began to relise alot of repair work had been done to the foot well with holes caused by rust. the worst rust on her was the passanger door where it had eaten straight through the bottom of the door and the skuttle panel after tutching it my dads hand went through it but is not shown in these pictures but u can proberly see the effected area im talking about. she needs alot of panels because she has alot of rust on the front end. skuttle panel, a panels, doors ect, i have got a new bonnet, doors and a few other panels and i intend to start sanding her down soon and welding primed the doors and bonnet so far ready to paint, i hope to get her looking beautiful soon! :D here are a few pictures

I still need to do lots of work on it... and it's been parked for a while... so hoping to get all the work done on it in 2007...

I need to change the seats..any suggestions?? and I need to sort the brakes... they seem ok when the car is parked but when I drive the brakes disappear... then there's also a few other bits that I need to sort...

Oh it also has a home made dash.... I'll post some pics of that another time...
