What Mini Do you Drive?

She's had a lot of bodging in the past, but I've decided it's time to put a stop to the bodgers ripping me off at every MOT time. So I've bought myself a MIG welder, taught myself to weld, and am in the process of restoring her to the best of my ability.
The biggest problems are having to work outside in all weathers, and not knowing where to get parts from.
I'm sure this forum will be a real inspiration to me.

good to hear that another gal is into the welding and restoring...my hubby used to do all of mine till i decided he was having more fun than me (if you know what i mean) so now i have my own overalls and am learning fast!!! parts can be a problem sometimes, but i'm sure you'll get into it all pretty quickly! are you getting mini mag and/or mini world? - they can help too, and advice on here is great!

No I don't get either of those mags, but I will look out for them now )
It was getting more an more difficult to find a mechanic willing to work on my old mini. At MOT time, there was usually a pile of powdered mini on the ground and the inevitable fail certificate, followed by mega-stress, trying to persuade them to fix it not condemn it.
Even if they would agree to work on it, the conversation usually went:
"Can you fix it?"
"Yeah, but it's not worth it, you could get a decent Fiesta for half the cost"
"But I'm attached to it, will you fix it?"
"Ok, but it will cost ya"
"How much"
{blokey sucking noise}"600 quid plus parts, might be more"
"Ouch! Ok, fix it pleeease..."
"I dunno if I can fit it in, bring it back in 3 weeks time"
"But it's got no MOT, I need a car"
"Take it or leave it luv, it don't pay me to fix bangers"
When you *do* eventually get it back from repair, there's bodyfiller stuck to the white roof, a bootful of tar which never sets, so it gets over all your shopping, a trapped tank breather, grey paint up to the top of the sills, and a pervasive smell of burning. The brakes are worse than before the MOT, and those new windscreen wipers you were charged for... they're the originals! Oh, and there are now 5 floorpans on the passenger side instead of 4, all of them wet.
So that's it, I'm not going to be held to ransom and stressed out by bodgers any more. If you want something doing well, do it yourself!
When I've got rid of all the rusty bits I'd like to buy a spray gun and do a pretty paint job, but that's a long way off.
