I don't "drive" a Mini (yet) but I just picked this up on eBay for next to nothing. It's what's left of a 1983 Mayfair. I still need to collect her as of yet so I don't know the full condition of her bust she looks very poorly!! 😕

I intend to restore this hunk of oxidized metal having never attempted anything like this before (so if you see me posting 'palmface' questions please humor me!! 😁)

Also purchased on eBay is a 998 A+ Metro engine. Again I still need to pick up the engine but I get that tomorrow!!

I drive or used to a Rover Mini Cooper 2000! Is a great little runner, but begrudgingly having to get rid of it due to a recently diagnosed back problem. 😥Any ideas in the best place to sell it?

Hi,

I have a 1963 Austin Mini Mk1 Super De-lux which has lots of Cooper S bits on it, apart from the engine,  which is still the original 850 with 108k miles,  and magic wand / floor starter.  (Cooper S 7.5" Discs and Servo, Twin SU's, LCB, RC40 side exit exhaust, converted to neg earth and alternator, 6x10 GB Minilites and extended rear drums).

It's been in my family since 1973 and was my first car.  It was restored / modernised in 1983 by my father,  but has been off the road since 1988,  yes 28 years,  not a typo.  After several garage moves and false starts I have finally got around to working on it.

After a couple of weekends,  my two boys (10 & 13) and I have got it running and moving under its own steam (water pump and alternator seized,  clutch pivot / thrust rod seized and rubbers perished in master and slave cylinders,  and a sticky bendix on the starter motor).  Apart from that and fresh battery and petrol and it roared into life,  (well that will be the hole in the back box!).  The boys have had their first driving lesson in it (on the drive of course),  with a lose seat and no brakes,  so all good fun!

This is going to be a full restoration so will be a while before it's road legal.  We chopped the remainder of the front off at the weekend to get at the inner wings and closure panels under the scuttle and shock mountings which had corroded.

The forum has already been a great help in refreshing my mini memory!

Hi

Well I'm new to the mini scene, I bought mine just 2 months ago. I have a black 2002 Mini Cooper with white roof and mirror covers. It's also got a double electric sunroof. Very nice in the sun. So far I've uprated the stereo to a Mechless Bluetooth model from Alpine and I love it. I also uprated the front speakers because at 14 years old, the originals had blown. My Mini is a 1.6 Automatic with the CVT gearbox. Since buying it I've been reading all sorts of horror stories concerning this particular CVT transmission which has got me more than a little worried. At the moment the car runs fine, but if the gearbox does ever blow up then  hey, I've got myself a project car. Probably convert it to manual, who knows.

Cheers for reading.....

Mike

Proud to be able to contribute for the first time.  Just got my "new" 1991 Cooper.  She was treated to new wheels and tires this weekend.

I have a MK3 998cc mini, just looking for a shell for it as it's very rusty.
