Hello Members - I've a 1973 Mini purchased from the original owner in the UK while stationed at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk as an Air Force officer. There turned out to quite a bit of rust under the bondo which seemed to present itself immediately after purchase. I entrusted a local Mini restorer to replace the rotted panels and upgrade the mechanics. It now has a 1380cc with twin SU carbs and higher transmission ratios for American roads. I've since brought it back to the US and as with most owners continue to upgrade, modify and adjust various aspects of my Mini.

It's in need of some welding to say the least, but isn't too bad considering it's 50. My father and I restored it in 1983 and updated it with mk3 rear lights and the wider back window, mk3 bumpers, grille and interior (a mistake looking back on it now). It's still got it's original engine with 110k miles on it, but I fitted a gold seal gearbox (still have the original)
Later I fitted Cooper S disks and a remote servo, twin 1 1/4 SU carbs and an LCB / RC40 exhaust, SPQR major remote change, extended rear drums, 6x10 GB Minilites, mini special arches, converted it to neg earth and fitted an alternator, new rear sub frame and quite a bit of welding before laying it up and life got in the way, girlfriends, other cars, houses, marriage and 3 kids.
Finally I have moved it to our place and intend to restore it properly. Originally it was almond green with pale green interior, but that's long gone. Wish me luck as not only is the car rusty, but so is my welding....
