stewart and arden bought the rights for the sprint but nevile trickett reckons they only made a couple and then shut down making them. he believes they only bought it to stop making them. (from miniworld this month not word for word though)

Very interersting read!

Now if Stuart and Arden bought the rights how can Nevile start making them again?

Will British Heritage not be annoyed?

You need, of course, to direct your question to Neville himself VIA HERE

As Smudger has rightly pointed out, Heritage will not have a problem with someone modifying an existing mini shell (as Neville is doing). The issue would potentially arise with the Stewart and Arden thing.

Ultimately, I don't think they could stop him from doing a roof chop on a mini if he wants to. They can't really own the rights to that, they could have perhaps bought the IP from him (buying the knowhow, what to cut and where), but that is different.

As for making a composite shell. I don't see why it would be a problem if it is made slightly different to the original. Ultimately, it is a kit car/replica. This would be very hard for Heritage to stop, though it shoudl be addressed up front, rather than going into production before finding out the facts etc.

At the end of the day, Heritage could surely use the same rulings to prevent people making composite bonnets, bootlids blah blah blah????

Who owns the rights to the Minus though? Surely if someone were to start making a composite Mini shell again, you might as well do the best one!

Someone does own the rights to the Minus, i just cant remember his name.

As for the rights to the bonnet, bootlid etc, since they have been made for over 20yrs their is nothing they can do.

However, give Heritage time, lol

Cheers fro the pic! My first thought was that thats a van too, but I'm not sure. Does the van have the same wheel base? It might just be that whoever did it had to do his own rear window frames/glass for some reason.

i had an email a while ago from FRA saying that they will be making some GRP shells soon, they are standard mini shell size but have little alterations that means they are not classed as a mini. there will be several different shells available. i cannot remember specifications and ive lost the email because it was on my college account for last year and the accounts are changed each year.

might be worth emailing them for more information.

Although I like a roof choped mini, the Minus does it for me... the look of the shorten body and standard sized windows.... Just love the look, and not the fact its rust proof...

Yeah, personal preference. I prefer the Sprint shapes to the Minus shapes, though they are very similar. I think the Sprints look lighter somehow.

As for a composite shelled sprint, that would be my ultimate weapon of choice, lighter and stiffer than a normal mini shell! :-
Though I may need to fit a roof bubble! :-
