Well here's the story.

A few weeks after I had my crash in my sportpack, I saw the guy who helped me that day push the car off the road walking towards my village, so i pulled over and gave him a lift. During the journey he told me of a mini that looked like mine sitting behind a now closed down garage! So the other day I went to have a look and I'm certain it's a rover mini cooper RSP in red! But the car has no numberplates on it.

We'll anyway I have a bad feeling the car may have been declared as scrapped by the DVLA, as this place was an accident/repair workshop, and the owners is a bit of an old git!

So my question is, can you re-register a car after it's been scrapped? Im gonna try and buy the car, but it would be a shame to have to break iot for parts if it came to that!

I dont think you can. The only way, which i dont condone, is to put plates and a VIN from another car onto it.

This is illegal.

I think you can but you will have to have a vic check but it might end up on a q reg or age related just make sure you have receipts and any id evidence of the car. try a phone call to the dvla or vosa

You should be able to get the car onto a Q-plate.

The VIN number should be stamped onto the bonnet guttering, in front of where the steering wheel would be for RHD. Get this number then you'll have to phone the DVLA to see what you can do with it.

I allready asked John Trevor about it , he is sposed to get back to me , But you are right he is a grade one miserable old git , he will probs refuse a cash offer and give it to the scrap man (i know for a fact he refused £600 for a car but gave it to the scrap man and he had to sign to say it would be crushed and this offer was from someone that worked for him))

Sorry but, once a car is declared as scrap with the DVLA there is no legal way of registering it again. It's gone!

Liam , you could allways use the parts to repair your shell , but how much you need to use of the new/ old to keep your reg ?
I could jig your shell , i am pretty sure you would only need new wings and a front panel,bonet etc and of corse a straight front subbie , costs can be kept down as you can do all your own mechanical etc and for you colection/delivery is no problem
just give me a call if you would like me to have a proper look and chat about a nice cheap price

Dont worry already stripped down the front end, subframe is ok! dad gonna jig the shell back me and do all the panel work etc!

Was only interest in the mini at John Trevors because it was and RSP and didn't want to see it end up in a scrap yard!

It's not quite that simple. You need to know the exact status of the vehicle and when it was scrapped and who by as there's loads of possibilities here. The rules for who can scrap vehicles now are quite tight and garages aren't allowed to do it themselves basically. If it could be put through a VIC check and it passed it would definitely be possible to get back it's original registration, the same as for any car which has been removed from the computer for various reasons (or was never actually added).

The question is whether it would be possible to put it through the test. This guy will get into trouble if a certificate of destruction has been issued for the car and it still exists so he'll be reluctant to release it but there are other ways it could have been treated. It also depends on when it was done as these rules are quite new. As I say you need to know it's status.

It's not impossible because you can prove in a VIC that this vehicle still exists and is still original, the problem there is that if it has been registered as scrapped and hasn't been physically taken apart then whoever registered it is liable to prosecution. Also VOSA can refuse to test a car for identity if they choose to even if the DVLA tell them to. You need to ask both DVLA and VOSA really.
