these flip front look amazing but one question are you going to put some cover that attaches to the flipfront in order to stop all the mud water and poo spraying up into the engine bay ? i have had look at the links on your signiture but couldnt see an answer to this Q ( or am i being blind)

also how have you secrued the flip front when its down ?

im in the process of replacing my front end and wondering if this is the way to go

Currently there is nowt stopping all the mud and water flying up into the engine bay. However a jet washer makes short work of any mud, just have to duct-tape over the vitals first, like the inlet trumpets and other holes. It is in my plans tho to make a flappy plastic removable cover outa the same stuff i made the mudflaps with to shield the new motor. Genrally speaking its not really an issue, its only when you start nobbing about in muddy fields... like... say... uuumm.... MITP2007 :D .... or .... uuuuummm.... muddy country lanes.

As for securing the front... i'm still working on that. At first i tried rubber bonnet hooks... they where rubbish, at the mo im using bonnet buckle straps... they're not great. I think im gonna have bite the bullet and use duez fasteners... not sure how they work...and i dont really like the look of em, but they seem to be a good tried and tested method.

ok sorry again lol looking at your first pictures of your lovely flip front it looks to me like it would be posisble to leave the sheets of mettal that seperate the wheels from the engine bay but just take out the actual wing section. is there a reason you have to taken all of this stuff out?

Hurmmmmm, s'pose you could leave them in, tho don't forget you need to make room for the brace bars :( I just cut em off because its kinda the norm. The main reason for doing a one/two piece front is because it gives you a lot more access to the engine bay. Altho it would still be easier than normal, i'm not sure you'd get the same level of access if you kept the 'flinch pannels', i think they're called?.... And when i say more engine bay access i mean, 1 hour to get the engine out off the subby without an engine crane quick, as opposed to it taking a day!

Its proved very usefull for me as i've been able to take the engine out on my own, tho it does help to have a hand lifting it out. For a person like me who loves constantly messing around with the motor - i would never go back to a fixed front, as its such a PITA to do anything. But flip fronts take a lot of fettling to fit properly... so they're not really idea for the perfectionist.

Kermit Stu, I agree with the above, although I have a 2 peice front, it is only removable and does not flip. Have a look at my thread and you will see how it is fastened, although that will change shortly

As i said before, thats entirely a matter of opinion. When it comes to tinkering and maintaining under the bonnet, its a god-send! Tho i don't understand forward flip fronts... i'd say they restric access more than anything, i'm not convinced  However, they obviously do not fit as wall as a proper steel front. However you could get over this by making a steel flip front. Then again a benifit of a composite front is rust free-ness and lightweight.

In my opinion, if i was doing it again, i'd ask myself why do i want a flip front? If you want it to 'pose' or as a style thing, then don't bother. I see it as being purely functional now and just put up with all the problems that come with it.

I dunno if its a wig... its not me, thats 'retroracer1380'.....it could be

you see, i love the idea of taking the whole front off if you need to work on it, but i always had a feeling that it would take away any structure the car had if it was in an accident (god forbid!)

Looks cool as **** though!

Thats what the brace bars are for. I'm looking at attaching the inner wings to the front panel and bolting it to the car at the point where I have cut the originals off. Still going to incorporate brace bars for added strength though.
