Hi All,
Don't know how I happened across this BB, but thought I may as well register and post.
My name is John, and with my partner, have been involved with mini's for a number of years. We currently have two, Schmoo a 1972 Delux, which has been 'tweeked', and Petal which is undergoing some serious rebuild as I type, fancied a rest from the welding. You may notice that the names are links to their respective websites. please feel free to have a browse.
Also, we have a local Mini owners club, which I am the Webmaster for, so just to promote that, it is rcmoc.org or Rugby Classic Mini Owners Club. Membership is free and since March '04 when formed, we have over 50 members, with 25+ road going minis, and a few other 'projects'
Catch you around.

Thanks for all your posts, CharlieBrown, may have seen you at the Showdown, but more likely you would have missed me as I ended up in a rather large cloud of smoke as Schmoo decided to start throwing oil out the breather @ 7500 rpm. makes a bit of a mess when it lands on the exhaust. Anyway, nerly finished welding up Petal, only the back of the boot and valance to do now..
As for the Thirty, yes it was a shame but at that time I was not in a position ( couldn't weld ) to fix the body work. Only when we got Petal, and the other arf decided that I was not going to cut up another one but rather fix it did I actually start welding ( some of my earlier work is a little un-desireable, so has been re-done !!!

The showdown is a great weekend, if a little on the pricey side. 'tis the second time I've gone, but the first time running, got there late on Saturday ( 'bout 4 ) and managed 7 runs before the track closed. On Sunday only managed two runs, the second of which ended up in smoke. but no permanent damage done
Only problem is running a 1330 I'm in class C with all the 1380's and strokers therefore don't stick much chance getting near the leader board, but did manage a respectabe sub 17 second run and just topping out @ 79.8 mph for the 1/4.
Next year will be there with two cars, petal will either be in Class A or B ( havn't decided on which block to build yet have a 1300 with a CR box or a hopped up 998 )
anyway.. enough for now as I'm sure there are threads talking about else where..
Later. .......
