Jack Knight have just released a bespoke direct drive electric powered kit, Mini Sport developed one a few years ago and there have been a few hydraulic options used over the years. The power steering rack from a BL Princess is a direct swap for the Mini unit (given a bit of fettling to allow the servo and connections to fit) and various diferent pumps have been used. There was a system used by Motability to adapt Minis for disabled drivers which used a small servo that fitted at the base of the column between the pedals and looked fairly ugly and got in the way.

All in all though, it's not really worth fitting in a Mini.

by the way, Hi everyone. I'm back.

Depends what you use the Mini for Dan  Going from lock to lock at next to zero speed when autotesting then PS is a godsend and high speed twitchyness isn't really an issue.

None of the companies mentioned have anything good to look at on websites and I would assume that as a bought package they'll all be talking bug bucks.

Jobu - I would love more details on what you've used and what needed modifying. Looks like a Corsa column, not sure if B or C though.

It a Corsa C column, i have made a knuckle so on my mini it goes from vauxhall to metro rack, just used the vauxhall knuckle and metro knuckle split then joined together.

I had to strengthen the dash rail, as with the weight of the column the dash rail moved from side to side when turning the wheel.

I am going to get the ECU modified, you can by the box thingy on ebay atm its £140. I'll get something like that, then the assistance will be adjustable.

If you have any questions just ask.

Old thread I know but this is a link to a company that has designed, tested and sells a Power Steering Kit for the Classic Mini.

i drive a mini and other power assisted cars and i hate p/s because of it. i prefer that extra feel that no p/s gives. thats just my opinion.
