Phoned the DVLA again today. I sent copies of the old V5C, the engine Receipts, the headed letter with the engine data via fax. It's now all registered properly and (according to their records) the new logbook was sent out today. Result!

Caster and camber time tonight. I'm planning on the following:

Set corner weights and ride height first,
Set caster to 3-4 degrees
Set camber to 1 degree negative.
Set tracking to 0.5 degrees toe-out.

Set rear camber to vertical to -0.5 degrees?

Oh, tyre pressures? Any recommendations?

I'd thought about 26 front and 24 rear? Any good for 6 x 10s with 165/70 tyres (A008s for now)?

Great!
Reconditioned head, reconditioned bottom end..... Puffs of smoke when pulling away from standing. This is NOT good. I can't afford to do anything else to this car before BH2N, so I'm hoping it was a crankcase pressure thing, owing to having no PCV system.

I've done around 50 miles now, about 30 tonight. It's running a bit better now, but if it is smoking oil, I'm stuffed!

Can't even imagine how upset I'll be if I can't do BH2N in it :dontgetit:

drive it mate, they seem to puff a little smoke, especially when running in! load it up a little bit and it beds the rings better too. Most of all i really wouldnt worry yourself about it!

The problem is, it's also over fuelling. It's popping back like he'll at the moment and still running rough. Just need to drive it and fine tune it all.

Bloody minis! :)

Get your running in period done now mate, sort out all the squeaks and rattles and fine tuning and test as much as you can

Gonna be a mission if your still testing on the run

Good luck!

Can't afford one mate.

It's deffo fuel. The smoke stinks of petrol. Also, the coilpack is on its way out, so I'm picking a new one up today.

I'm thinking the main cause of my problems is my inlet.

It idles roughly.
When I rev it, it responds OK, but when I lift off, it takes ages for the revs to drop.
It seems to be over fuelling, there is a vacuum operated fuel relief valve.

So, I'm thinking that an iffy inlet (leaking air) could cause most of those problems?

Aye, it'll be alreet. It's just a combination of a load of old sensors, a bodgerised inlet manifold and my dodgy wiring! :)

Well, I've now done around 80 miles on her.

Snags;
2nd gear is hard to get, engine needs jacking up a little on the rear. The linkage is fouling on the aperture that the rod passes through. Easy enough to sort.

It's definitely smoking, bit I'm 90% certain it's over fuelling. When you ease of, coming to a roundabout for example, it pops and bangs like mad. You put your foot down again and you get a greyish cloud of smoke. Plugs are wet too. Deffo too much fuel. Might swap out the AFM and ECU, ad I found spares on eBay for a couple of quid a piece.

Brakes need more oomph, but that'll come as they settle in.

Exhaust needs another silencer somewhere. It's very noisy above 3000rpm.

Exhaust needs another hanger, somewhere neat the centre.

Brake light switch needs adjusting.

Inlet manifold needs to be sorted. It's leaking air somewhere, which I think is the cause of most of the running problems.

Need some speakers fitting somewhere (if I can be bothered).

Engine needs running in and properly setting up.

Coolant needs adding to cooling system, rather than just water.

I think that's it really.

Oh yeah, I need a new roof gutter trim. I lost mine last night. It's surprising how well they can fly actually! :P
