Just got off the phone to Minisport and they say the 7.9" Alloy 4 pot kit will fit under the 6x10 GB alloys, so I will be able to run vented discs!

Gonna order em now :w00t:

Hmmm, it's just the brake-fade I guess (not that I've ever had any on any of my minis). Maybe the solids would cope OK.

and vented discs cost more to replace each time. where you can get standard 8.4's turned down each time you need them

Well, the cost of the vented versus solid doesn't really bother me that much. Maybe the reduced overall weight (reduced unsprung mass) may be something that I should be thinking about? Then again, it's a mini, it'll handle well enough with the 10" rims, a bot of negative camber and the Avo dampers.

Hmmm, I just prefer the idea of vented disks and better cooling personally. I've never had brake fade on a mini, but I have had it on other cars and it aint nice. As this one is potentially gonna be used on the track now and then, it's gonna be the 7.9" vented, and probably gold coloured.

And as I have found out that the Minisport calipers are made by Hope, I am gonna go with them. That'll mean that I have Hope 4 pots on both my mini and on my mountain bike, though the bike has bigger disks (8.1") :xxx: :(

No piccies of todays work as I couldn't be bothered to get the camera dirty again! :D

Work done today:

Fitted the Avo dampers to the rear and lowered the adjusta-rides a little (around 10mm). Will fine tune ride height when all wheels are on the floor.

Fitted the front Avos, loosely as they will be coming off again when the front subby is finally dropped (one night next week).

Took a few engine bits off, mainly the alternator, starter motor, etc, so they can get plonked on the other block, which is now pretty much ready to go in.

Main job of the day was to make a custom wiring loom for the engine bay to allow the fitment of the Megajolt setup. The coilpack is going to mount over the top of the transfer case, with the EDIS module on the inner wing above the starter solenoid. I measured up the wire lengths, cut them to size then soldered them all together and taped them up with insulation tape, though I may rip that off and use some self-amalgamating tape from work as I prefer it.

I'm going to make a custom coil bracket out of some 2mm thick aluminium from work on monday, I've got the measurements now, so it'll look nice and neat when it's in :P Just need to pinch a couple of igntion leads off my mum's Fiesta to see if standard ones will be a good fit. The only thing I am unsure of with the wiring is where the black wire off the coil pack goes to, I assume it's ground, but I will check on mum's fezzer when I pinch the leads whilst she's at work tomorrow :xxx:

Still to do:
Finish off rebuilding the front hubs and fit some brakes (need to get disks turned down at work).

Finish painting engine block, fit new clutch slave cylinder to new engine, sort out adjustable pickup bracket for the ignition (at work). Get alloy fuel tank finished off (at work again). Then she's ready to go in! :xxx:

Make the bulkhead box (weld it together at work).

Got to decide on the arch/wheel combo. I don't really like the sportpack ones that are fitted and they are gonna look daft over the 6 x 10's that are currently fitted. I think I am gonna go for old skool group 2 wide GRP arches. They'll look more at home on the car than the Sportpack arches do. If it looks right I think I'll keep to 6 x 10's when I eventually get the MB rims. I really don't like the look of the 165's stretched over 7" rims the more I think about it!

Now it's Man U time! :P

EDIT:

Piccy of the GB's under Sportpack arches :xxx:
