Have told workshop guy not to bother doing any more work on it, he can keep the head as far as I'm concerned now. Just gonna get another one from somewhere and do a check over/rebuild on it myself.

Good on you Matt, it's time places like this realised who the boss is, the customer.
I have a question for you about The FReak, are you going to be taking it for an IVA? As surely it'll qualify for one now?

They told me that I just needed to send the log book off with the new engine number and a proof of purchase (a receipt from the engine builder on letter headed paper will apparently suffice).
I don't know how the IVA thing works, but going by what the DVLA said, what I've done doesn't need to be tested other than the MOT.

That makes me want to do mine! But I know my luck, I'll need an IVA :|.
Or maybe they're relying on the MOT man to spot that it needs an IVA?

Anyway.....
I picked up a second hand (recently reconditioned) head on Saturday and it's mint!
The standard inlet fits there easily, so wop wop soon!

Now I can see where it all sits, I can trim, final fit and paint the flip front. I surprised by how much room there is in there to be honest. I may even look into a retro-fit inline servo if I feel that I need it. I am also going to fit some proper sound-proofing on the bulkhead. Plus, I need to find somewhere not too hot to fit the airfilter. As it sits now, it's going to end up right behind the radiator

The plastic inlet's going, but I can use it until the engine's run in, then I'll fit the custom top half on the spare bottom half of manifold I've got. Just need to chop the exhaust manifold down a little and relocate the lambda boss on it, then it'll be ready to roll. I am currently planning on using the MPi rad, but if there's enough space, I might go for a Scirocco one or similar. Somehow the MPi one just looks waaaaaaay too small!

I've just GOT to get my arse on a trackday ASAP!!!

Am gonna have a crack at doing the IVA thing anyway. Sod having a car that aint 100% road legal! Looking into it, it needs to be done to be right.
I was under the impression Matt, that it is for the mot tester to judge if the car is extremely modified, and if they say so then it needs to have an IVA. Thats what my mot man said to me when i asked about it.

Have you managed to squeeze everything under a standard round nose front without any major modifications to the bulk head then?
Does would the 1.6 small block frame be the right size to house a 1.4 as well?
Very good of you to be considering going down the IVA route regardless of if someone says you need it or not. I'll be keeping an eye on your thread for the coming years as if you can get your car through an IVA, I'll happily do an engine conversion on mine using yours as a guide to get it road legal

Also, if you're wondering why I asked about the 1.4, it's basically because at this point in life I can't justify paying double the road tax I am now for the sake of 14bhp difference between the 1.4 and 1.6.
Sorry for all the questions

But, I'm still doing the 'chavvy powerbox' conversion. It's a good few free BHP to release really.
