WHEEEEEEEEE!
I have to accept that when I go the ring, it's going to look a dog as I aint got time nor money to do the bodywork. That'll get done when I get back.

So we're going then? Are you suuuuuuuuuuuuuure she's gonna be road worthy on time??? :(

I've got al my bits crossed.

I'm more hopeful now than I was last week. :-

Today, I've got all of the welding sorted on the front end, the gearbox has been trial fitted to see how things line up, I can now make the mods needed to fit the Vauxhall gear selector/rod. I have also started on the loom work that's needed. Got as much of a head start as I can before I get my engine back. When the engine's back it's a case of building it back up, running it in for a while and then it'll be fine-tuning time.

I do have a couple of small issues to deal with, but it's jsut time and money that's holding me up.

I got a pair of tower bolts sorted today too, went to a local scrappy and they had a couple of minis. I also got a load of spare bellhousing bolts sorted.

Actually, could do with some advice from you about installing the VSS (haven't got a sensor yet). On the C16XE'd GSi, I believe it's in the instrument cluster. Could do with a gearbox mounted one. Do you know if that'd work?

vehicle speed sensor? yer just get one from an astra 8v or anything, it screws on to the manual speedo output on the gearbox, and then you get a hall effect sensor output (thats what inside). So you just need 12V+ - earth - and signal

Hmm, I wonder if that one's still in the Ashtray I butchered on Sunday? Will go look tomorrow. Easy enough to wire in I guess? I'll look in the Corsa Haynes manual. IIRC it's around track 480 in there. Must just be a couple of wires to the ECU?

Looked like a fairly simple affair to me anyway.

Will it not work without a vss? What clocks are you going to be using?

On my swift conversion the ECU will work without a vss (Ive got the engine started but not driving yet) but Im not sure how well it will drive without it. Apparently it will drive without it so Im not too sure how much the ECU compensates fueling wise.

Any way you better get a move on, you havent got long left :P

youll be running an aftermarket ECU, so ignore them, its only for idle purposes on the standard engine. I can find the colours and let you no what goes where, think its something like black, 12v, brown, negative, and the signal is something like blue and.. white?

Nup, I'm running the standard ECU and injection manifold, I should have the room for it as I'm running an internal pedal box. Might be a bit tight to the cross member though............. I was told by Rob that it'll fit OK as long as I've got the early Corsa GSi inlet manifold, I bloomin hope it does or I've been stitched up like a kipper! :P

I will have a look in the Haynes, I'm sure it's in there, I just couldn't work out whether I needed to use the cable and VSS job from the back of a Corsa dashboard, or if I could use the gearbox mounted one. :teehee:

I've bodgerised the bulkhead for now. I've welded a plate in the centre jsut to seal things off. When I get more time to spend on bodywork, I'm going to replace the top half of the bulkhead, from the crossmember up. Not easy, but it's been drilled, welded and messed around with that much over 40 years, that it's looking a mess now. Soundproofing will cover all sins for now though! :P

That's some gooooood bodging! :teehee:

OK,

another quick update:

Bias bar pedal box bracket fabricated and offered up, seems to fit OK and looks like it'll work fine. Just need to take it off, clean up the welds, cap the box section 'rails' and paint it all, then it can go back on.

Posted Image

It's sitting with the brake pedal a little too close to the column shroud, but I've built in some sideways adjustment into the mount, so can adjust that tomorrow. Reservoir bracket also made and fitted:

I've also fabricated a mock up of the gear lever lift bracket from some 5083 aluminium sheet, gonna do it in mild at work on Monday, but it's going to sit like this:

Poor little car, just desperately awaiting her engine! I am planning to collect the engine this week, build the 'kit' together during the week nights and then fit it into the car on Saturday/Sunday and maybe take Monday off work too. Need to really crack on now! WHEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! It's just a shame that I aint got the time to do the bodywork before we go to Germini, but it'll get done when she gets back!

Looking real good and very familiar too, one thing that I am scratching my head about mine though is how to cover the gearshift box ? I want to either find a long gaiter or surround it with a modified centre console but not sure where to start.

I'm planning a centre console type affair eventually. Was going to head down the scrappy and see what's about to be honest.

why thank you!
