I've had a fettle and things are looking like they're going to fit under the standard round-nose OK. Just need to ditch the standard manifold for either a home made one, or a four branch off ebay and then I'll be able to sort a radiator out! :)

It's some good bodging, but I use wheel ramps with mole-grips on them to set-out where the front will sit in relation to the subframe. I'll need to relieve the wing lip a little bit on the O/S, just to make it clear the timing cover.

Need to start stripping the A-series engine and frame out of the car now! :)

Its looking good Matt. I've ended up modifying a 4 branch manifold to fit under my standard length front end. I'm reliably informed (by 16vmini on here or MattG on 16vminiclub) that you can also use a TD oil filter to give you a bit more room as they are shorter than the standard one. I opted for the MPi rad and coolin fan

Cheers - John

So with the engine positioned like that, does the linkage clear the bulkhead or do you need a bulkhead box?

Has mr welderman made any progress on you manifold?

I'm going to mod the linkage so it's all smaller and neater, rather than weld a box in.

WRT: the manifold, nah, I'm awaiting Mr LASERman to cut me a flange! :P :owned:

Yeah boooooooooiy! :owned:

Well, at this rate, I've got about another £300 or so to spend (plus the cost of a respray). So budget-wise, I'm on target anyway. Time scales are wwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay delayed though! I Was hoping to be where I am now at Xmas time, and have the FReaK ready to drive to Brooklands!

Forgot to take a pic of manifold before surgery but this is what it looks like after. I cut about 20mm from where it joins the manifold to bring it all closer to the block then added a bit onto the 2 outer pipes.

This was the only bit I had to add on both outer pipes

Cheers Nudge, looks like it's a Sportex one? Or is it an ebay special? It looks like it's the same style as the one I found on the bay anyway.

Hmmm, me likey, me go buy, me go fixey! :owned:

I think it ia a Sportex one but I did get it off fleabay. Even after modding its a tight fit and ended up making a couple of 3mm spacer plates to push the front crossmember out a touch. Its almost sorted but I've got to move the lambda socket as it will be poking through the grill where it is now
