Man, I know, I know. It's daft isn't it, but I really am coming more and more around to the idea of getting a 2.0 16v Vauxhall lump in there. The only thing that's stopping me is the fact that I'd have to go away from 10" rims really, unless I found a gearbox with a loooong FD ratio :)

You know the vauxhall engine makes sense matt. :)

i shall be keeping 10"s, the rolling circumference of the wheels to 13"s isnt that great, its only the weight of them that differs i think.

Is true that the rolling circumference isn't that different between 10" and 13" wheels, but when your travelling at 70mph the number of revolutions the wheel is making really makes the difference. The difference in size I believe is usually a good 500rpm.

but with the 2.0 litre id want more hefty brakes than what can fit under normal 10's i know people may well argue about KAD kits being good but well its really about surface area...so...just to lay this to rest...matt if you do go for the 2.0 engine you HAVE to get MB split rims and KAD 6pots...im sorry thats the only way were all going to allow you to do so :)

Why? You've not added much more weight with a Vaux lump. And EVERYONE knows brakes stop mass, not speed! >_< Many of the turbo boys run with 10" wheels and half of them have 150+bhp and loooooo-ts of torque/talk. Miglias run 10" wheels with 130bhp. And if it was all about surface area we'd all still be using drums! >_<

It is possibly to get 8.4" brakes under 10" split rims! ;) KADs 6 pots are radially mounted so you'd get them under 10" wheels too.

Nah, the car weight will be the same, the car will be able to go faster, but it's not like I have to upgrade the brakes from the current alloy 4 pots :ermm:

I mean, if keeping 10" rims and the current setup is possible/feasible, then I think my decision's made already! :ermm:

That would be great, if I could do a C20XE conversion on standard length roundnose with 10" rims!!! :w00t:

No, my mind's not made up yet, definitely not. Not until I've weighed up all of the different options. Need to do more research. Out of interest, were Astra GSi models on 15" rims as standard? With 195/50 r15 tyres? :ermm:

*runs off to do research*

fair one about the weight, wasnt sure how much more it was :ermm: was bad enough picking up the d16 into the back of friends car
surface area=disipation tho n also what i was thinking about

And if it was all about surface area we'd all still be using drums! :w00t:

not quite true, because even if surface area as more, the number of braking faces is different which is more important to co-efficiency of friction, being only 1 in a drum set up with a disk you have 2 (ether side of the disk) and the inefficiency due to the leading and trailing set ups (forgetting about twin leading for the moment)

I have a Vectra SRi 2.0 16V, 1997, sitting idle and up for sale. I have had her from birth and I love her. Always well maintained blah blah blah. If that engine will fit, then PM me if you are interested. She's currently SORN and on the in-laws drive... :w00t:

Hmmm, will consider that when the time comes, but my local scrappy's very friendly with me, so he's gonna give me a bell if any C20XEs come in, or an X18XEs or 16XEs too >_<

Not definitely decided yet, but looking at the cost of a ready made frame, I'm gonna need to save up for a few months anyway.
