Oooh replies,

Dan, yeah still running the basic map on the jolt. It needs more advance at idle and less at high RPM, but I've not really taken it over 5krpm yet. It's still only done about 100-150 miles so it's not ready to go on the rollers just yet. Plus I need to sort out more gearbox oil leaks yet!!! >_<

Anyway, I don't think it'll make it to Malvern, I'm not happy with taking it that far yet. Longest journey I've done so far was to the MOT station and that was about 12 miles. Might try and go for a longer drive tomorrow methinks.

Hmmm, small update:

I've been using the FReaK on occasion and I've realised that I need to make a decision. I really am thinking of selling her at the moment. I just don't enjoy driving it as it is and I don't know if I really want to throw any more money at her. I mean, it's cost me thousands and I'm just not happy with it. I think the only way I can keep her is if I go for a 16v conversion. I'm weighing up my options and really am thinking about going down the Vauxhall C20XE route, if I don't sell her.

It's either that or buy something completely different and more practical. :)

Dunno what to do :)

I know, it's damn hard to decide what to do. If I do keep it and go for the 2.0 engine, I'm going to have to do some serious flogging of spares to pay for it! :)

Dude, I had exactly the same thing with the Racing Green and the 1425. Just one little niggle after another. Looking back I REALLY wish I'd stuck with it and tried a bit harder to sort things out. If I had both the car and the engine now I would never sell them.

We feel much the same about Bluey (VTEC mini)

We can't realistically afford to keep him, but Sy bought him brand new and has worked so hard on him- the cost is way over £20K, so it's one of those really hard decisions....... sell knowing we'd NEVER make any money back, or fix all his problems, rebuild and keep him?

I say stick with the devil you know! Make FReaK into the mini you really want... don't sell her and regret it forever!

It's not just the niggles though, there's all sorts of things I just aint happy with. It's just time to have a rethink, keep it A series and it always be fun on the twisties and up to 60mph, then hard work, or go for a Vauxhall engine and have performance and economy, orrrr just flog the whole thing for whatever it's worth and buy something different.

For the money you have put in, and would put into any new project compared to what you will make selling her, in my opinion you should look to take her off the road, somewhere sheltered, SORN to avoid tax and insurance costs for a few months and see if you miss her.... IMHO, of course :)

hmmm, think I missed me chance on MSN! :) oops.

I headed off into the garage last night and had a look at all of the spares I've got.

I think that I am going to take the following course of action:

Sell all of the spares that I have and don't need as backups,
See how much cash I've got,
Then make the decision as to whether to carry on throwing money at the A series or to go for a C20XE conversion :)

I've always thought I'd want to go VTEC, but I really think that if I'm gonna do it, I want to go for an engine that I know and like. I've had Vauxhalls before and I love working on them, they're great. :D

Mebbe, just mebbe I'll just carry on regardless with the FReaK. :) Don't know if I can actually sell it after everything I've put into it. I mean, I've not even finished it yet. Perhaps that's the problem, the bodywork's not as I want it and the engine's not been set up on the rolling road (though it's running much better now I've tweaked it, a lot).
