How did you work out your coil was faulty? And what symptoms was it causing?

I've got some misfires throughout the rev range. At first I thought it was down to bad setup, so I connected my timing strobe to cylinder number 1 and started to rev the bugger manually. When revving it I saw that I was losing signal to my strobe and that the engine was struggling (it was only firing on three or even two cylinders). I played around with the multiplug that powers the coil and it was a little loose, the revs dropped, then I wiggled it a little more and there was a MASSIVE backfire and the revs picked back up.

Sooo, I think that what's happened is that there's been a loose contact on the coil, this has maybe been causing some of the misfires that I've had, but it's also damaged the coil. I was losing a spark on cylinders 1 and 3 (which are on two different coils on the EDIS pack) from about 2krpm and above. When I switched the HT leads around the lost spark followed the same coil outlets (ruling out lead problems). It's a PITA, but I think it may have been caused by having a loose multiplug in the end. It's a brand new coil too! :)

@Minituga, thanks for the compliments

ATM I'm using BP6ES plugs with gaps set to 0.9mm, they should be fine for the 'jolt setup I think

Dunno yet Pie. Not sure if I CBA to go there really.

But, she's been used every day to get me to work and back for the last week or so with no problems, aaaand she's returning around 20mpg, which is nice.

She also lights the likkle tyres up if I let her! >_<
