have swapped 998a+ engine for a 1275 a+ am using 998 distributer but would like to use the distributer from the 1275, which is i believe to be a contacterless unit ,could anybody advise me on the wiring, i have a vague idea but not quite sure

If you want to use the 1275 electronic dizzy, you'll need to get the right coil for it (about £10 - £15 from a motor factors). Wiring up the dizzy is easy, on the side of the dizzy you'll see the connection for the wires, buy female spade connectors that fit on these. Then you want 2 peices of wire about 8" long, on one end of the wires, put on the connectors that you got for the dizzy, on the other and put 2 normal female spade connectors. Plug the dizzy wires into the dizzy, and the other end into the coil. The only original wire you should have left on the coil is the coil power supply to the '+' terminal. the other 2 wires go one on '+' and one on '-' terminals. If there are 2 or 3 conectors on the dizzy, all you need to do is try and start the car, if it doesnt fire, then change the wires over untill it works.

THANK YOU, THAT MAKES SENSE,DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE TIMING SHOULD BE ,IVE ONLY GOT THE HAYNES FOR A MINI, THE ENGINES FROM A METRO(1988). CHEERS, MAX.

I normaly time mine in between the second and third tooth down from the top of the timing marks on the chain cover. Dont forget to unplug the vacume advance first tho, then re connect it when you've finnished.
