I am currently in the process of rebuilding my gearbox (DAM 5626) and noticed that the replacement idler gear bearing from the Minispares rebuild kit (TUK100320-IKO) has a central groove on the outer race that is not present in the old bearing. It also has 13 rollers as opposed to 14. Do I need a different bearing or is this the correct one for my gearbox? Also, can anyone ID the old bearing (possibly AHU1707?) Thanks!

The factory fitted item is that on the right, they were Torringtons, which I thought in the case of these, is what Mini Spares were stocking.

Thank you Spider. I'm curious as to why the IKO bearing has a groove in the race? It's the only one I've seen that has it. What are the advantages?

It's an Oiling Groove. If you look around the Bearing case, in one place you'll see a hole in the groove that goes through to the needle rollers. In some applications, there'll be an oil hole on the housing hat this bearing would b fitted to, that when installed, will feed oil to the groove, or it maybe a retaining groove, where in some fittings, there's a pin that fitted through the side of the housing to retain the bearing in place. Keep in mind here, all these bearings in Mini Gearboxes, except for the First Motion and Mainshaft Bearings are general industrial bearing and not Mini specific.

In regards to this oiling groove in a Mini, it does nothing, the bearing is oiled other ways, just ignore the groove and fit it,
