To the best of my knowledge these dollies are illegal to use except if you are a Trader or Breakdown service.

I do believe the rules around their use in the UK are rather complex, especially as the A frame and car are not "braked", as they would be if on a proper trailer ie all four wheels off the road.

I understand some dollies may be braked, but the rear wheels of the mini in contact with the road would not be, hence the confusion around their use

I made one in the 1960s that worked like a Formula One jack.

It cost me a £40-00 fine and 6 points on my licence, much to the annoyance of the Prosecution, who had also accused me of 3)  No MOT,  4) Exceeding the speed limit with a trailer and therefore 5)  Of driving without Due Care and Attention.

Because the rear wheels were on the Highway, I was done 1) For no road fund tax, £10-00,  and 2)  No insurance, £30-00.

Fortunately, the Magistrates said that if the rear wheels were on the ground, it wasn't on a trailer, so that struck off 4) and 5), and I got lucky with 3) as they weren't sure that a Racing Mini could pass an MOT.

They are only legal to use to move a broken down car. If the car is not broken the it becomes a trailer. As as it has brakes fitted they must be operated by the A frame. That ones does not look like it has that ability.

I thought you only needed brakes over 750kg, should be under that with a mini surely ?

re: the type of trailer being A frame though no idea I don't know anything else apart from remembering there is a weight limit

only downside I'm thinking is where the two effective axles are a mini's length apart and there's no articulation or steering between the two.  usually a trailer would have central wheels so that becomes a sort of pivot point for rotation on the horizontal plane
