I've followed the fuel lines from back to front and failed to find any leaks but today I removed the spare wheel to check the spare wheel tyre pressure, and the wheel well contained a sticky film of what clearly smelt like stale petrol.
I've been keeping the fuel level low in the tank and relying on a 5-litre back-up plastic can in an attempt to keep down the cost of lost fuel, and although I'd taken a cursory glance at the sender unit, didn't notice any signs of leaks.
But upon close inspection, the sender unit circular 'base' seems to have two raised edges, as if someone has used a screw driver to free the unit.
The photo isn't desperately clear but is it just me?
Should the circular plate be flat all around it's circumference.
I've ordered a new seal and clip but I fear the sender unit plate may be distorted and hence leaking when the fuel level rises above the sender unit level.
Thoughts?
I suspect I'm going to need a new sender unit?
Thanks in advance.
