Fobbed Off: What To Do For Dead Key Fob?

Best Answer Blumeanie , Yesterday, 05:47 PM

Replace the battery.
Then see below:

I believe a further reset involves depressing the throttle 0 times...  But someone may recall that in more detail.

I'm now at a point with my Mini where I'm trying to run the engine after doing various fluid/part refreshes (fuel, oil, coolant, the works). But I can't get past the immobiliser

I'm not sure if what I have is factory fitted or (shudder) an aftermarket one, but there's a little red LED just below the switch panel. Flashes red when the alarm is active, continuous red when the key is turned one stop in the ignition. Normally I'd press the left-hand fob button for a few seconds and it would go off, but I can't get to that stage. I can hear the fuel pump gurgle for a few seconds (I had the tank out) before it stops.

When I remove the key there's also a weird machine-gun sounding noise from the front - not a clue what that is. Answers on a postcard please!

Assuming I haven't forgotten anything and it is indeed a dead fob, is it possible to replace the battery oneself? I seem to recall reading that they were matched to the ECU and therefore getting a replacement was a bit of a faff...

Cheers, that got it. Just needed a new battery and pressing a few times... definitely wasn't four though!
