I replaced my choke cable yesterday and my indicators stopped working entirely, the hazard switch does work if your press on it a bit, I took that apart and it seemed okay inside, although you do have to press down on it slightly for it to flash when on (someone hit it somehow last year when it had some bodywork done, I'll get a new switch as soon as I can). They were indicating faster than normal for some months as well.

This happened once before years ago but did go away after replacing the spade connectors to the flasher unit, no luck this time. The fuel gauge also stopped working very briefly but its now fine. Brake lights work fine a does everything else. The threads I've found are for later minis with better wiring. If anyone knows where the ground wire is that would help, could it be in that spot near the wiper motor with a bunch of grounds?

Mine is a '76 Canadian mini with just two main fuses, no relays to blame. Any help would be appreciated.

On an unrelated note I have this intermittent seemingly  low sounding driveline noise or vibration thats noticeable at lower speeds, new cross pin diff, new CVs and pot joints recently as well as good used driveshafts, there is a little bit of play in the upper engine steady, could it be that? (adjustable one) or engine mounts? New header exhaust too which I have on pretty tight. You can hear it sometimes more when going over one of those long low speed bumps.

the hazard switch is a known failure point, it also passes on the supply to the normal indicators so that would be part of the same problem

blinking faster usually means you have a bulb out (or some sort of wiring issue perhaps)

once switch replaced see what happens then, it's a pretty simple setup but plenty of places where it can go wrong due to age and use, it's mainly the hazard switch, really old wiring and connectors, old earths points, and the stalks can gunk up and stop working

I imagine you removed the air filter housing?
You may have disturbed the in line fuses that live on the bulkhead there.
A wiggle test may confirm this.
A Haynes is pretty essential for tracing faults.
Good luck

Is it this switch?

I know Canadian Minis were relatively sophisticated compared to ours 'n 2 fuses suggests Mk3, which didn't have have 'zards in t'UK.

The circuit's likely the same though, if it has a minimum of of 5 terminals. There'll 2 that are connected with the hazards off & disconnect when the hazards are on. They're for the indicators all the rest connect together when the hazards are on. If you can identify the indicator's pair of  terminals just short them together on the loom to confirm if it is the switch.

I'll pick one up later this week, that might be it although *does* kind of work currently.

No bulbs were out, it was both sides going faster.

They really weren't, still two fuses but they originally came with additional stuff; seat and key buzzer (including a sensor in the seat) plus an awful air pump, although we did get headrests earlier than the UK, which also makes the non folding seats not conform to the repro pre-made seat cover material.

I'll try that when I get the new switch, its  a pain to get the hazard switch out, it doesn't come out unless you have the panel off, the clips are stubborn.
