I've completed more checks today and have noticed lots of air in the fuel filter. Is this normal? Could it be the fuel pump?

It's normal unless the filter is set up so the exit is right at the top so any air rises to the top and gets out.  Besides which i don't see how air could make it richer.

I was thinking air leak around the fuel pump gasket? I'm clutching at straws to be honest and I am a week away from taking out the engine.
Or even if the head gasket was a poor quality one which going by the gasket number it isn't.
Oh and I've even fitted leaner needles which I had lying around which made zero difference

I have fitted a head gasket set supplied for a morris mini small bore. I'm sure these are the same??? If not...

It definitely isn't a stuck choke 👍
