You can even get super finished cams now.
Is it just a money earner?

Super finish is a metal machning process where the workpiece will get its final shape and surface smoothness.

supposedly, reduces imperfections 'at the molecular level' to reduce friction and increase life,
presumably some small fractional increase to horse power and/or responsiveness (although the same can be achieved just as easily by painting the car red and putting a sparco sticker on the back obvs)
probably would be worth it for the added lifespan from my point of view, depending on the added cost. though I only heard about it today so I can't pretend to be any sort of expert on the topic

Shinny gears will produce less friction and it can remove some stress risers from parts.
It’s probably well worth it on a motorsport engine but anything else is pub points.

The last cam I wore out was a Super finished FIA15 historic race cam (649 derived) from MED.I managed to get about 10000 miles out of it before it wore out which in my experience was pretty good. Followers were super finished MED items too. All the cams had been run in for 20+ minutes at 2500 rpm too.
Trying a non super finished SW23 with matching followers now, see how that lasts.

As above, for racing it's a bit of a no brainer. I'd be surprised to find a proper race Mini that doesn't have a super finished gearbox at the very least. For the road it's a nice thing to have.

It’s just a polishing process done in a vibratory tumbler and some fancy abrasives.
Shinny gears will produce less friction and it can remove some stress risers from parts.
It’s probably well worth it on a motorsport engine but anything else is pub points.
That pretty much sums it up really, I've had one for years for cleaning my brass when I'm reloading.

I always think, and am probably wrong, people do not realise a road car is not a race car..the amount of people i have told over the years to not put a race clutch in a road car, (I know off topic), is unbelievable, race cars dump the clutch at x million revs, pretty much change gear clutchless, never crawl in traaffic, never do a hill start, and people still dont understand me

And some people actually drive on the road like that too 😁

This is well off topic now, (sorry for spoiling the thread), I use a cooper s, or a 1275 GT friction plate and the old orange pressure plate, yes it makes the clutch pedal a tad heavy but it worked (Pre verto I should say)... time for me to shut up
