Hi all,

This is my first post here—sorry that it's a cry for help!

I have a 2020 F60 Mini Countryman (automatic) that recently failed its MOT due to a leaking front driver-side shock absorber. I was quoted £2,000 for the repair, which I couldn't afford, so I bought the part from BMW for £170 and replaced it myself. Everything went smoothly until an error message appeared: "Driver Stabilization".

My trusted neighbour saw me scratching my head and suggested that the car might need some time to “learn” the new shock absorber. He lent me his ISTA to clear the code.

From there, things went horribly wrong. After clearing the code, the gearbox stopped responding properly. The car now:

Thinks it's in Drive and moving (daytime running lights are on, which normally only happens in Drive)
Tells me to release the handbrake when I press the accelerator
Says "can't engage P when car is not at standstill" when I press P
Displays "Secure the car from rolling away" when switching off

I checked the gear lever function in ISTA, and all buttons are working correctly. However, when I try to read the current gear position, it shows "Signal Invalid".

If all else fails, does anyone know how to put the car in neutral for towing? It has a fully electric gear lever, and there’s no manual release like in older models. Looks like I might have to find the money to get it to BMW after all.

Thanks in advance!

Wrong forum, this forum is for classic minis only, not the BMW kind.
Try mini2.com

Although you are on the wrong forum, when the transmission looses its indexing on these vehicles it requires dealer level equipment to rectify.

The clutches have to relearn their possitions . I would think it is a transporter job to move it.

This unfortunately is the price to pay for running these modern models

Now, if it was a Kia or a Toy-motor... it would still be under warranty. (And Toyota even double their warranty to ten years if you have it serviced with them annually.) In the light of that, BMW still offering only three years on the MINI would put me off, no matter they're lovely cars.
