Hi all. My Speedo stopped working a few months ago which was quite new,so I replaced the cable and it was working fine for about 10 miles or so then it stopped working again. Can anyone advise on why this is happening? Thanks
What was the damage when you dismantled it ?
Did you replace the inner and outer ?

Two possibilities come to mind.
There was a change at some point in speedo cables and Drive pinions, the early ones having a 1/8" square ends, and the later types went to 3.0 mm, a small change but can make a difference to the point where they can slip.
The other thing is the Cable Drive Pinion (in the gearbox) can slip on the shaft, I'm thinking this is the most likely cause on yours. I get to them from under the car, removing the LH Pot Joint gives good access to them. Just be sure to jack up the LH side of the car nice and high before removing the Pot Joint or drain the oil.

I'd judge it as a somewhat easy job. There were different pinions fitted, you'd really need to remove yours and do a tooth count or most of the time, if the Pinion is slipping on the shaft, you can clean and glue them together with one of the better superglues.
