I own a number of older vehicles (bangers rather than classics) and am on forums and social media groups for all of them, for help and advice in keeping them going.

I keep coming across scenarios where people will post asking for opinions and when i've given mine, which is/are entirely reasonable, people (not the original poster) feel the need to pretty aggressively argue that my opinion isn't right or worthy or as good as theirs. I don't really understand why as surely the original poster is capable of reviewing all sources and making their mind up.

One case recently, somebody asked for opinions on whether to get steel wheels refurbed at £50 a time or if there were other options. I said I'd bought new steels for £60 each which could be an option...  and was repeatedly "attacked" by another group member in the comments as this was obviously more expensive and therefore a terrible idea.

Anyway the reason i'm posting here is that I dont see that on this forum. I love the fact that opinions/replies/responses to questions are respected by others (largely).

Thank you all for making it so!

was that on facebook?  I closed mine years ago for exactly that sort of reason, immaturity, arguing for the sake of arguing, a total minefield of wrong info and bias

agreed this forum is very civilised in my experience

jonlad...think you've got yourself a troll on social media!

Why I'm not on any social media platforms...yeah, you do miss out on postings of drive outs and the like, but I can always go for a drive on my own.

Yes facebook - and I'm not sure I am active enough to have a troll, its more a collection of experiences over the last couple of years  :proud:

Stuart - immaturity is a good word for it!

and yes - it just means I'm going to use that platform a lot less!

Experienced similar to what you described on another forum with the result that I hardly go there anymore and do not express my opinions about certain topics. It is a pity but it seems to be the zeitgeist if I am allowed to use a German word for this....

Couldn't resist...

But in all honesty the world gets madder every day... they political nonsense astounds me daily.

Freedom of speech... unless you are insulting some high power public facing individual..

Faceache ia full of keyboard warriors and barstool experts which is why I dont bother with it. If I want an argument or to be told I am wrong I just talk to family members. ;-)
