good question - lol

assume from the switched ignition feed that would have supplied the orginal instrument panel like temp gauge ?

It’s worth tracing it back and checking it’s getting the right voltage. The older style temp & fuel gauges used a voltage stabiliser that was around 10v

Unlikely this will be your problem but worth checking
