Problem Connecting Pipe From Clutch Master Cylinder To Slave Hose.

Best Answer Abbot , 07 March 2025 - 12:39 PM

I have found the root cause of my problem

The threaded nut holding the tube into the hose had splayed out and was preventing the male thread engaging with the female thread.

As a temporary fix I filed down the splayed bit.

As it is th clutch it is less safety critical than the brakes so will make do until i can get replacement tube

I am putting my car back together after a complete strip down.

I have a major problem to get the thread of the Clutch pipe to Clutch Slave hose started in its thread.

No matter how I offered the pieces together the thread would not engage.  After many tries I assumed I had knackered the thread in the hose so I bought a new hose and nothing has changed.

It may just be you have mismatched threads. M10 and 3/8 UNF unions are both are used on some Minis (tho' far as I know M10 only on the brakes). See this: https://www.theminif...tric/?p=2158109

As a basic way to check the threads, you could try lightly threading a known good, clean nut-and-bolt pair of 3/8UNF onto the pipe union and into the hose.

Thanks that's interesting.

Originally I did not change anything.  I was just putting all the same parts back together.

It was after failing so many attempts that I presumed that I had damaged the thread inside the clutch hose so I bought a new one.

I will now try the fittings in the connections to the brake system.

Verto or pre-Verto clutch?

Note the difference in threads for Metro/Mini Verto clutch slave cylinders if you are fitting any new parts...

CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER LATE METRO NOT MINI
GSY117

Difference between this and the mini slave cylinder is the metric union to take the hydraulic pipe as opposed to the mini UNF thread

It is the verto type, my Mini is 89 998.

The replacement part was the middle one above.
