Hi, Just signed up.

Its been many years since i last owned a mini (previous was a 1986 Mayfair).

I'm currently looking for a Rover Mini Cooper Sport, ideally with the silver stripes and roof but not essential. I'm sure there will be one out there for me somewhere.

Are the MPI minis tuneable like the old days of 1380cc with sporty Cams etc.?

The OEM MEMS ECU is the limiting factor, however it can be replaced by alternates.

The later Rover Mini Cooper Sport MPi Minis are the most refined of Minis but seem to rust quite badly so check any cars you view very carefully for hidden rust!

Have you driven a sports pack mini? The big wheels make it quite different feeling to a standard mini. Heavier steering, more drag, smaller turning circle etc.

They can be tuned, but are more limiting than a carb Mini John Cooper Garages use to do a Works kit that took the power to 90HP

Anything out there will be rot or restored or if lucky somewhere in the middle which will mean ongoing cost. Had mine for 20 years + and stuck with it as it was almost new when I bought it so know the history and kept with each other after many great trips around Europe.

Any performance upgrades are a waste of time unless you unlock the MEMs ECU which is problematic or get an aftermarket alternative. Been there done it. 90 bhp kits do not work and you will get minimal returns with stock MEMS. It has no idea what to do with the upgrades.

Ended up with a Specialist Components (SC) ECU and Throttle body with SW5 Cam, SC Sports Head and rebore to 1340 as engine was knackered at 90K. The results were great though it needed a few mappings to get it right.

Good luck DM me if you want more info but I'm not on here all the time so reply might not be instant.................
