Good morning guys,

My idler gear clearance is currently 3.5thou
I want to get it to 4 minimum.


I know they sell the different size thrusts. But for the sake of 0.5 thou, could I rub it down?

I have a thrust washer that is only 5 thou too big, but that would get me to 4 thou clearance.

I'm thinking a glass plane with wet and dry taped to it flat.

I know you can give the primary gear washers a tickle with emmery paper. I'm hoping I can do the same here.

The issue you have is compared to the primary gear washer it is much harder. I would look to get it ground.

 

but what about looking at other gaskets?

Easiest way get a selection of gaskets, use a micrometer and write down the various thicknesses - penny to a pound they all vary.

Thanks guys I remembered I had a different idler gear. Still A+ that took up the tolerance just fine to a perfect 4 thou.
