Hey All,

i was using this website to decode the VIN tag on my car:  https://www.classicm...chassis-decoder

On Position 11, the only choice is A which intereprets to Longbridge, so it must be the plant that built the car.

BUT, my car has a B in that position.  Any suggestions what the B means?

A = Longbridge

M = Cowley

B in that position usually means built in Belgium at the BMC/BL Seneffe Plant.

Sorted! - Great!!

I have a COUPLE of Mysteries! (On a 2000 LHD - German market - Mini cooper sport)

SAXXNPAZRYD######

Selecting '1990-on" on the link above:

- Position 9 = R' = LHD, Manual, 2.76  [that covers the German market difference, I believe... so all else should be consistent with the site info]

BUT -  I have a 'P' in position 6.

The options available for position 6 are:

N =  Sport, Cooper, cabriolet      - [I think this  choice would make sense in my case]

V=  Kensignton

W=  HLS, Mayfair

Y=  City, Sprite

There is no option 'P' - And I have found no other reference to this...

AND

I have a Y in position 10.

The options available there in the link do not include a 'Y' these are:

A= 1300 Special Edition
B= 1300

  - [I found a reference saying that position 10 was a year indicator - 'Y' being the year of production 2000 - which matches mine.]

It does seem from around 1998 the 10th digit changed from "A = 1300 Special Edition, B = 1300" to "W = 1998, X = 1999, Y = 2000".

Some of the unlisted variations that others have found, can often be found by searching in the FAQ questions and comments section on the MiniMania VIN Decoder website:-

Yes - the Minimania website is where I got my initial 'decoder'. But it does not reference the 'P' in the 6th position. All else lines-up.
I am stumped...
