Hi,

'78 Morris Mini 1000, just put in a new loom and speedo loom.

The new loom had one less illumination light compared to what we had, but put another one in no problem using one of the bulb holders from the old loom.

However on each side of the speedo are 2 rubber caps, capping off 2 extra bulb locations. Arrows pointing to them below.

What are these for?

I had assumed it was so you could change the single indicator flasher, and make it left and right lights instead, but I am not certain of this.

What other things would those capped lights be for?

Thanks

One of the amber ones was the oil pressure warning light on 850's that didn't have an oil pressure gauge.

+1 for this answer - but your original idea is good as I (and others I believe) have done the same to split the single green indicator light cables and put them into the two orange lenses (adding earths to each)

I have an oil pressure gauge but also a warning light which I have put into the green lens (although non-standard I believe some A30's and A35's may have had green oil warning lights? - maybe other older Austin Morris Leyland etc cars also?)

The one above the ignition warning light was used for low oil pressure warning on models lacking an oil pressure gauge as imack stated above.  The other amber warning lamp was used on some mk2 Minis to warn an oil filter in urgent need of replacement.
