I have received a set of new brake shoes for my Mini. Now, I know that brake shoes have a leading and trailing edge and need to be mounted correctly. However, the shoes I have received appear to be symmetrical: I don't see a clear leading and/or trailing edge. I have attached a photo showing this. The only, minor, difference I see is how slanted the edge of the friction material is. The edge at the bottom of the photo has a slanted edge, whereas at the top it is almost square.

Is there a recommendation, or mounting instructions, on these brake shoes?

The "slot" at the top of your pic, is where the push comes from to press the shoe against the drum, and is the "leading edge" if the drum is rotating anti clockwise in your pic.

I've noticed too over the past 10 years or so that the friction material is being fitted fairly centrally on the frames. On the rears, I actually prefer these as the more or less work just as well in a forward direction as reverse, ideal for when using the handbrake.

Thank you both for your replies.

There are two sorts of questions that often get asked on here.  Reading them, I divide them into the "What do you think" and the "Do you know".

Working on the principal that it is better to be thought a fool than to open my mouth and prove it, it is always nice help someone, if I know the answer.
