What...the...hell. These are ridiculous. What sadistic mother f'er thought this was a good solution. I'm so close to throwing perfectly good calipers in the bin and buying recon units. How is it possible to fit new dust seals on 8.4 calipers. I just cannot do it.

Use a block of wood.

Tried that. Did a great job of crushing the retaining ring into a tangled mess!

Eventually I managed fit on old ring which had a very slight kink in it. I then managed to straighten it back out once in place.

Without splitting the calipers I can't see how it can be done

I just split the calipers and put in new seals

If you take the seals to the hardware shop you may find a bit of pcv pipe the right size to get them in

Having had this issue over many years, I now always split the callipers. Then I put a smear of light grease on the edge of the outer seal and press it in slowly using a flat piece of wood. It's still a b****r of a job though.

After splitting the callipers, fit a new O-ring and torque the bolts to 45 ft, lbs. using a bit of Loctite.

Last time I did it the old rings went in fine but the new ones that can with the seals were a complete pain. I gently deburred / chamfered the edges before winding them in with a piece of wood.

They are a very neat fit. I've always split the calipers, I feel it's the only way they can be properly cleaned in any case.

Ideally, they need a lead in to get them in.

This - they seem to be made with  sharp edge that jams in the recess.  Getting all the corrosion out of the recess is vital too.

I found a brake pad spreader worked well.
