Does anyone have any recommendations, especially with regards to a decent compressor.

I used to have one similar to that. It needed the tank, it was a pain off just a small compressor and when it was damaged in a fire, I bought a trolley jack

I have the cross beam adaptor which makes it even better.

Professional air jacks, probably costing ten times the one your looking at, are good and are usually backed up with a high capacity workshop compressor.
The cheaper models that are available are, in my oponion, not worth borhering with, their makeup is quite poor utalising poor quality materials , poorly finished internal tubing which tend to "stick" together when lowering giving a bit of a jerky movement.
A good quality trolley jack is more useable and as stated a quality product will give years of faithful service, I have a two ton rated Weber floor jack that must be over thirty years old, in this time I have serviced it a few times, oil change etc, and have replaced the pump seals twice.
The advantage of a quality product is that even after a long period of time spare parts are still available from the manufacturers.
It's a case of spend your money and take your chance.

For the guy at home, I'd find it hard to justify going to Air Jacks, but if you have cash to burn, then sure.
They don't need a huge volume of air as the chambers are on the small side, but will need 100 PSI / 7 bar to get their full lift rating, which most commercially available air compressors will do. Look at the specs of the Jacks and it will have Air Supply recommendations.
Personally and for similar-ish money, you can get a full lifter, which I think would be more useful.
