Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend a book or an online resource that lists a 1976 1275GT and it's original spec/options in detail? It would be useful for putting the car back to how it rolled out of the factory.

I have an amazing book for my beetle which does just that - specifies the variations by year and trims etc, but I've been unable to find anything remotely similar for the GT.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, but I've found so many of these guides so highly unreliable, I wouldn't suggest referring to them.

Printed material 'from the day' is likely the most reliable.

The interior changed in 76 from the 75.
It had the boomerang steering wheel
Twin stalk on the column with the wiper arm added and larger surround. With the key pointing at the driver.
The switch panel went to the small square switches with lights, hazards, rear fog light, heated rear screen, choke and heater.
The instrument binnacle was the same and the vents were the same as was the dash trim.
The seats went to the deckchair striped nylon/velour covers
The door cards changed.
More sound insulation was added under the carpets.
The boot had a loose black vinyl and felt loosely fitted over the spare wheel and black Jack bag.
Mechanically I can’t remember much except the hs4 had the fixed wax stat I think, the pre heater intake on the exhaust to the carb, no brake servo as I recall.
That’s all I can remember at the moment.

I think 76 was the change over year, but my 76 GT has velour seats not the striped ones, and "original" GT steering wheel

This thread linked below on the Mk1 Forum (32 pages) also has a lot of details and photos on 1275GT specs, history, etc.

My brand new 80 1275gt never had the weather shield or wiper motor cover or the cover on the inside of the bootlid and the gear knob was the flat topped Bakelite type.

I think all clubman and 1275gt's had the weather shield as standard. I don't think wiper motor covers were ever fitted to 1275gt, they came on late 80's minis.
The round top bakerlite gear knob was standard on all pre rod change cars. Early rod change had the flat top bakerlite gear knob. Boot lid seal was on the boot lid, not on the body.
