On here you will get many facts and sometimes you will get in my opinion or if I remember correctly but on FB everything gets presented as fact.  I have a BINI as my everyday car and often you have to wade through a lot of rubbish to find a correct answer. Wish there was a forum as good as this for BINIs, they need it.

Great post, but not every answer on a forum is correct either, and if you're asking the question, you sure as heck don't know who is giving good advice.

True, however, there are enough people here who do know to sort out the better from the less than better answers.

like on most car forums you will find an answer eventually, done this regularly with my newer more reliable (supposedly) cars.

I stand by my original statement, I am not necessarily referring to this forum, I am on dozens.  :shades:

I love this forum. I often ask simple questions after consulting the Haynes manual or workshop manuals. However just the reassurance of you guys who have actually carried out the job cannot be documented in a manual nor can experience and real time application. Hopefully by learning, I can pass the information on in the future.

Don't worry about passing information in the future.  Musk will get that sorted with AI

Forums - this one in particular - are invaluable to me. I do not have anything resembling a mini or an A series engine (of any kind) for hundreds of miles around. In fact, when I drive around, my mini is the very first time most people see a mini. They are surprised that there were minis before there were BINIs.

Insight from people that play with minis on a daily basis, and have the skills and knowledge that comes as a result is HIGHLY valuable. I am very appreciative of this as a resource - and as a community. - On this forum I can read and type away on mini topics, instead of being found mumbling mini thoughts to myself!

I am grateful for the answers already received - and those that will surely come!

It doesn't take long to work out who's BS'ing and who actually knows their stuff. It's just a shame when some who profess to know stuff are subsequently reluctant to give advice freely.

you do get some characters online don't you lol

the ones who do genuinely know everything and do their best to answer where they can (props to them, lists of names not necessary, everyone knows)

the ones who genuinely try to help but might not always be accurate despite best efforts (I feel like I fit in this category.. always try and remember to add disclaimers where I'm not sure but the info might be useful or include links if I can.. be humble and polite when corrected, every day's a school day and all that)

the ones who can be useful sometimes but often keep it short and don't include explanations, sometimes with slightly snarky comments like 'just look it up in your haynes' or 'this has already been discussed loads of times'  (yes, well not everyone has a haynes, and also search functions aren't always the best, maybe help out by providing a link?  which they do sometimes..)

these are all the same wherever you go we have a full range over on the volvo forum as well

you do have to sift through stuff and bit and try to work out for yourselves who to trust etc, but that is always the case with research in printed material as well despite best efforts (even Vizards mistakes have been pointed out a few times.. no-one is perfect)

what you don't get on this forum though is petty squabbling and point scoring and for that I'm very grateful, it's mostly very respectful and gentlemanly (or whatever the female version of that is where applicable)

and the info isn't swamped with pictures of people's dinners or gym photos and cat videos

Well I am very grateful for the freely accessible wealth of info and advice that appears on here.

Dummkopf's like me would be lost without it.

Haynes manuals are all very well, but between this forum and the ability to follow YT examples from generous people a complete idiot like me can survive.

Well, not a complete idiot actually, some bits of me are missing.  :)   But a big thank you from me.

Although I've only posted a few times, wanted to agree with this post. So many plums, half answers, misleading or just wrong posts on face ache that this forum is a breath of premium petrol air. Ahhhh

Get with the times, it's all AI now :)

I'm not so sure you want to rely on that...:

I 100% would not rely on AI for anything - it is only useful when you know what you're doing (i.e. it's a productivity tool) and shouldn't be relied upon for anything factual.

I wanted to post here, to reinforce how important this site is, as a source of calm, sensible and accurate information about the Classic Mini.  If something is incorrect, its corrected politely by someone else.  Happy to support this site in any way possible to ensure it survives a long time.

Its a complete contrast to the horrors of Facebook.  Consistently seeing absolute nonsense on Facebook about Classic Minis.  People that know nothing both asking & answering questions incorrectly.  Lots of the posts seems so completely incoherent that I think they must be AI generated - e.g. people that have just bought a Classic Mini but appear to know literally nothing about it.... is it just a way to get lots of comments?

I say... resist commenting at all on these FB posts, and if the person sounds real/sensible/desperate, point them in this direction.
