Somebody on FB asked what the thread was on a sump plug, these are a few of the answers given, you will notice that none of the include a question mark after them, so the author believes this to be fact, to be totally fair the correct answer was given ( probably by a member on here). Why people write such bollo#ks is beyond me and is potentially dangerous. FB seems to be infested by people spouting crap as gospel, if that's all we get left with the world is doomed.

That's like googling your symptoms of a cold... it will tell you what you wish to believe....

Or are told...

Take educated answer and still question it..... if it is right... it is right..

On here like minded mini people need to stick together...

But to be fair... why were they asking on a FB forum.. plenty sites available for the information..

why were they asking on a FB forum.. plenty sites available for the information..

Because they couldn't be arsed to google it.

Sadly, we're seeing more questions of that sort on many forums.

sometimes though to be fair, you google a question and get varied answers,

but in those cases I would come to this dedicated forum for an answer from someone I know has spent years working on them, I wouldn't ask facebook lol you're bound to get a load of guesses and wrong answers

I've never understood why anyone would ask anything on Facebook. If you actually own a classic car wouldn't you be serious enough about looking after it that you would seek out a dedicated forum. Posters on there ask questions such as, "How much is my car worth", and you have to doubt they even own the car. It's their way of getting a rise/response out of as many people as possible. They obviously find it entertaining. So far I've found the moderation on this site (TMF) to be spot on. Everyone is genuine, helpful and very knowledgeable. It's very rare you spot a ridiculous guess to a question. If there is a genuine guess, it's made clear that's what it is. Why would you swap that for the cess pool that is Facebook.

Isn't it obvious ?  If they wanted the factual answer, they should have looked on Truth Socalled.

If its that 1959-2000 group, it's full of armchair experts and general idiocy.

I think that is somewhat an age thing as well. Those of us who grew up in a time before facebook are probably more likely to look for forums such as this than we are to facebook as we know we're likely to get accurate answers.

I'm not so sure younger folk and those who sporadically used the internet in the early 2000's would though...

I've always noticed / found that the forums have a higher grade of quality than Faceache.

I feel that one can build a profile on the forums and everyone else quickly gets to know who to pay attention to and who to scroll past. Threads can be found easier and parts can be sectioned to make them more relevant for the users. I find it a more logical layout.

Faceache on the other hand is here today, gone tomorrow with little accountability,

I joined that for a day or so, a better bunch of nut job and key board warriors you will never meet. It was actually posted on a MK1 group, which surprised me as normally it isn't too bad.

There's so many bad answers on Facebook (there are often good ones too though).

I often actually reply to wrong answers saying it's wrong etc. It might make me look bad but I don't want people to read the incorrect information and think it's correct.

If you think mini groups are bad, join MG groups. There's a reason scammers love MG owners more than other vehicles. The other day someone tried to tell me that the steering rack boots aren't there to keep oil in and that they can be run without them. In mini groups if someone tries to say that the fan being fitted backwards changes the airflow direction, I've never seen it be questioned when someone corrects them. I tried to correct someone in an MG group and had multiple people trying to tell me that it will make the airflow direction change.

Facebook is full of great information but the problem is trying to find it. The search is useless especially if you aren't in the group with the information.

Great post, but not every answer on a forum is correct either, and if you're asking the question, you sure as heck don't know who is giving good advice.

On here you will get many facts and sometimes you will get in my opinion or if I remember correctly but on FB everything gets presented as fact.  I have a BINI as my everyday car and often you have to wade through a lot of rubbish to find a correct answer. Wish there was a forum as good as this for BINIs, they need it.
