Hello All.

I just bought my second Mini 30 years after owning my first. I am originally from the UK and had a 1981 Mini 1000, which I used to drive from Basingstoke to Southampton Tech in 1994/95. I loved driving it.

I now own a 1998 Mini Cooper that was made for the Japanese market. It was imported into Ontario Canada in 2015, by 2017 it had made it's way to Alberta Canada where some restoration work was done. it was converted from RHD to LHD, 1275 was replaced with a 998 (why?) and the A/C was removed (again why?). It was then sold and some more restoration was done in 2020, some new body panels, 998 removed and replaced with 1275 bored +.040 to 1310 with Kent cam and other improvements, SPI removed and twin S.U. HIF38 carbs installed.

New engine has 1220KM (750 Miles) on it. Owner who had the last restoration had 4 other Minis and didn't drive this one much, he then moved back to Ontario and it was sold to PO, who brought it to BC in July 2023.

He only put about 500KM on it and had to sell it for new baby that his Wife is expecting ( lucky for me).

I hope to find a lot of information on this Forum.

Regards.

Landie

Hi Landie,

Welcome to the forum.

You will find plenty of expert help and useful tips on here.

I appreciate that you are on the other side of the pond but if you are going to be raiding the piggy bank a lot it is worth becoming a TMF+ member for the Can$ equivalent of £5.

Once your TMF+ membership is registered with Minispares you will get the 71/2% discount on your orders. Help with the postage.

No it IS the only Mini in the village PO lives 2 hour drive away in a big city. I live in middle of nowhere BC, nearest village, town or city is at least 1 hour drive away in any direction.

I'm in a similar situation...

I have to cross an international border (into California) in order to get anywhere close to another mini... and they are rare there too.

I have just looked at your area on Google Earth, it looks a fantastic area, awesome scenery and some amazing roads to put the Mini though its paces.

Yes Mini's are rare in California due to their strict emission laws only Mini's made before 1968 are allowed in, People get around this by putting 1968 or earlier VIN numbers on newer cars, this causes problems for buyers as you really don't know what year car you have.

Yes there are some really great roads for the Mini, just not right now as there is snow mixed with sand and gravel also salt in some areas. I can't wait for spring then I will be doing 500KM in a week

Stuart

Done that myself.
