I’ve been on eBay 20 odd years with no issue, love it, just sold a load of stuff at no cost to me, thanks to new removal of selling fees, so all good.

However something cropped up today, which I thought I’d flag, there’s a new option that has auto toggled itself to on, which is for the Global Shipping programme. Means buyers outside of the U.K. can see your listings, buy it, it’s sent to a U.K. based forwarding company and sent on.

For that pleasure they charge you the seller a 3% fee. I had no idea this existed, and even though the postage was to a U.K. address. I complained to eBay and they explained it is this new Global Shipping programme, which has only been a thing since last October.

It’s easy to toggle off, or leave on if you want a wider range of buyers and don’t care about the 3% being taken from your payment.

Completely separate to this, eBay have just announced Vinted style buyer protection fees, which the buyer pays, and it’s hidden in the total of the payment, this is from February.

I've always found selling on eBay a full on pain in the ass. Plenty of hidden things to part you and your cash. On top of that the fees were far too high. I was sceptical when they announced the free selling, but it turns out it is, if you're careful. Thanks for pointing these out.

The worst change as a seller, is that you are only going to get paid once the item is delivered. I’ve had more than one buyer buy high value items, not reading the description, photosoir ask any questions, then think im a commercial
shop that does free returns -erm no. Then when i’ve had items sent back, parts missing (conveniently)

With the money held all power will be lost, as ebay tends to always side with the buyer.

Yes I hear you, I’ve been messed around in the past too.
But funnily enough I currently get paid before I’ve even posted it, and I’m sure why?!

That was my 1st thought, if you end up selling to the other side of the world it's going to be more pain than it's worth to your occasional punter.

The global shipping program has been around for ages. It can be quite useful as most sellers won't ship internationally even though it's easy to do. The problem is that the GSP prices are usually quite high so it's rare that it's viable to use unless the item itself is cheap enough. I usually end up spending more on the GSP shipping than the item and even DHL would've been cheaper if the seller did it. The GSP shipping is slow.

It’s so important to read your emails from EBay about the changing terms and conditions that are always sent before any changes are made.

Ebay is a PITA but it is better than the alternatives. I have no problem with ebay giving buyers the better deal as it tends to stop the scammers being so effective.
I still prefer to buy from the source directly but it is getting harder and selling other than on ebay if possible.

Still far to many people bidding but not buying. E.bzy just do not care.

"Wait 21 days"OR "We have sent an email.mail to buyer" OR "buyer has sent you a message(no message)

The hidden paypal and e.bay costs months after buying or selling is really sneaky..

I am from Hungary.  Once I tried to order some parts from BullMotif's ebay store as the ebay offer was cheaper compared to they webshop. I connected them before the order and they answered that I can order on ebay, but after that ebay will handle the package and they can not guarantee that I will receive the order. They had quite a few complaint about ebay shipping.

I stopped selling in eBay years ago, just not worth the grief when it all goes wrong.
All I use eBay for now is buying as it's orientated towards buyer protection rather than seller protection.

have used ebay quite abit for shifting bulky items, including a trailer tent and 2 bikes so always do buyer to collect. i know it limits who will buy the stuff but at least no issues, so far at least.

I don't see eBay as being any worse than any other platform. I use it daily to sell stuff at work without any real issues.

In 22 years it’s never gone wrong for me, very valuable platform!
