Ebay - Fees And Changes

However something cropped up today, which I thought I’d flag, there’s a new option that has auto toggled itself to on, which is for the Global Shipping programme. Means buyers outside of the U.K. can see your listings, buy it, it’s sent to a U.K. based forwarding company and sent on.
For that pleasure they charge you the seller a 3% fee. I had no idea this existed, and even though the postage was to a U.K. address. I complained to eBay and they explained it is this new Global Shipping programme, which has only been a thing since last October.
It’s easy to toggle off, or leave on if you want a wider range of buyers and don’t care about the 3% being taken from your payment.
Completely separate to this, eBay have just announced Vinted style buyer protection fees, which the buyer pays, and it’s hidden in the total of the payment, this is from February.

shop that does free returns -erm no. Then when i’ve had items sent back, parts missing (conveniently)
With the money held all power will be lost, as ebay tends to always side with the buyer.

But funnily enough I currently get paid before I’ve even posted it, and I’m sure why?!

The worst change as a seller, is that you are only going to get paid once the item is delivered. I’ve had more than one buyer buy high value items, not reading the description, photosoir ask any questions, then think im a commercial

That was my 1st thought, if you end up selling to the other side of the world it's going to be more pain than it's worth to your occasional punter.

The global shipping program has been around for ages. It can be quite useful as most sellers won't ship internationally even though it's easy to do. The problem is that the GSP prices are usually quite high so it's rare that it's viable to use unless the item itself is cheap enough. I usually end up spending more on the GSP shipping than the item and even DHL would've been cheaper if the seller did it. The GSP shipping is slow.

I still prefer to buy from the source directly but it is getting harder and selling other than on ebay if possible.
