1983 Mini Mayfair

Hi.  as the weather has been good for a few days I decided to give the old girl a run out.

There is a noise from what appears to be the offside front wheel.

It sound like something is rubbing and is speed dependent as when I slow right down, so does the noise.

When I coast down hill with the engine off ( private land of course ! ) it is still there.

No difference if I turn left or right.

best described as a whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

Any suggestions would be welcomed as I want it sorted before the spring.

TIA

It could be the disc shroud rubbing if you have one as you may have picked up a stone.

Your brake pads could be getting thin and touching metal.

It could be the wheel bearing but that is normally a squeaking noise.

I would get the wheel in the air and give it a spin, hopefully there`s something easy to fix.

Could be the pads rubbing on the discs, esp if any rust has built up, does the noise change in anyway when you brake?

I would jack the car up on the offside and spin the wheel by hand, can you hear any rubbing then. If so that would most likely rule out the wheel / tyre touching the bodywork at least

I would expect another dust shield to have failed if it was on one of my minis.

1983, is it not still on front drum brakes? could be crud on shoes or drum from being stood or rust around backplate flange catching on drum.

If not the back plate

Could be

C.v.boot grease retaining clip possibly.

Some people use the dreaded tie wrap which is not the correct part... usually hits the fattest part of the tie wrap.

OR.

Could also just be a slack wheel nuts issue
