I am looking to replace this JVC unit with a new unit that has Bluetooth capabilities, and one which will fit in the same opening without any modifications to the dash.

If you have a suggestion and a photo to share, I'd like to hear about it.

What year is your mini?

These are very cool, but pricey!

You should be spoilt for choice, now there's no cd or tape mechanisms & even amps are just a few chips. I have a Pioneer that was cheap as chips & has a bluetooth app too.

The commonly available ones (just like the current one) all look out of place in a mini (or most cars). There's a couple of Blaupunkt models designed to look like old ones but they are very expensive.

I use period correct radios and if Bluetooth is desired I modify them to have it.

Beardylondon…thank you for providing those two links.

If Ethel and Stefanmini could please provide photos of your Pioneer units, I would appreciate it.

I did. There's also the Blaupunkt Bremen. The issue is the price.

The second one isn't too bad.

Pioneer have a website, I'm sure all the others, Sony etc will too. It'll be a single Din, standard size front. The issue will be the depth, but plenty will be shallower than what they used to be.

This is the Pioneer that I have in mine. The graphics are customisable, so can be toned down. A very good hands-free phone capability.

true I had one a while back with no CD player, just Bluetooth and radio, it was no more than half the depth of the older type

the displays do tend to be very out of character for the mini, all bright colours and buttons with things like XBBS! on them and such

this is why I'm actually just going to put a double din touch screen in, you get maps and stuff, which is nice , but also the displays tend to be more 'tastefully modern' rather than 'max power 90's'

As Quinlan says you can turn off the mobile disco effects. You could also use the app on your phone for a front end.

..I did note the Pioneer site I linked isn't very clear on the app integration Their list of compatible devices (unless it's different in the US???)

I have the Jannspeed dual exhaust (with the rolled tips - which looks great - in my opinon!)** This was installed shortly after I purchased it  back in the day. This is not excessively loud, but certainly would overpower any music playing in the car.  And the engine + music would certainly be a bot too much to my ear.

I've not had any sound system, in my mini from new. The dealer offered the mini CD player to me in a box at the time, but since it was not installed, I passed on it. It was too noisy for playing musing even back then! (- Maybe I should have kept it as an old time accessory...)

These modern 'old' units from Blaupunkt are great! And the pioneer units seem very interesting - with the OBD data. (more than the music!)

In any case, I am always rewarded with the 'internal music' while driving the mini! - It really sounds good!

** It seems that Janspeed had gone out of business. - As have other mini related shops. (I did find the name still trading, but they do not seem to make mini bits any longer.
