Just been to add some hardy spicer nuts and bolts to my ever expanding minispares basket and nearly had another coronary experience.
£3.65 per bolt and £1.01 per nut 😳😳😳
The minispares apology for the price of the nuts should also be on the bolts page too, and in bold 😁

Yes the Hardy spicer “bolts” and Philidas “nuts” are expensive. But still cheaper than aircraft grade ones.

Also cheaper than https://www.med-engi...upling-bolt-kit

A 5/16 K nut is about 1.50.

Is there a reason why Philidas nuts are used over nylocs?
Not that the Philidas nuts are the issue, it's the bolts. 😁

The nuts need to be very shallow, a standard nylon would be too tall, a 1/2 nylon may fit. But there's heat to consider, the heat from the exhaust manifold and heat transfer from the engine oil would probably melt the nyloc. The exhaust heat used to melt my old QL5000 joints.
QL5000 and standard rubber couplings used to use Philip's nuts too, probably due to the heat issue.

When we used to be stuck for a locking nut, using a blunt punch on the top thread of an ordinary nut to half pitch it in a couple of places did the trick. They never came loose and did not damage the bolt thread and I suppose a drop of locking adhesive on the thread would not be out of place.

I think the Philidas nuts work in a similar way looking at them.

Look on E Bay  " BSA Norton stiff locking nut", might be what you are looking for.

They look like the fellas 👍
Think I'll be buying the "official" bolts though due to head shape and material spec which is a bit of a stinger 😬

Hi,

What price safety?

If the joint fails not only is it a danger to you but other road users as well if it means you lose control of the car.

find a local bolt and nut supplier near you and take old one in, they will normally have items in stock.

At school, I remember the poetry teacher telling us about an Islamic Bard, who used to make steam engines.

He had trouble with nuts coming loose, so he had them put on an anvil and hit with a hammer to make them oval.

Of course, it wouldn't be allowed in England, but he was a foreigner, from the 'Kingdom of Brunei',

Or was it Brunel ?

I doubt any bolt supplier will have these in stock due to the shape.

I can see me just pulling me pants down and taking it. 😳

If you have a vice and a file, you could file a flat on a hexagonal bolt.
